Map Selection could be improved with reverse decay functions with DBD saved Realm History.

I know you killed off Map Variants because "it made it harder to get new maps" you said so on your account on Reddit. But I have been to Nostromo 5 times in the past few days and I saw Toba Landing TWICE yesterday. AAAA

My point is the Map selection in this game is still very bad if you are looking for Map variety! The recent changes are good, but not enough. I have not been to RPD IN WEEKS. I mean maybe the system is not working?

One big annoying part in the past is, Map Offerings. But I rather talk about a constructive solution around that.

Ok, so if BHVR saved your Realm History when you were last at any of the Realms, the game keeps maybe the last 10 and then instead of just reducing the chance of recently played realms, then INCREASED the chances of going to a map where you have not been in a while. By the Patch 8.5.0 patch notes it seems Realm History is saved, but the effect is not great (for me), but BHVR could also apply reverse decay functions to Realms we have not been to as well. Meaning the longer I stay away from RPD, the more likely is that ill go there next.

Its a question for players really, Would you just want to not see the same Realm recently or do you want chances to go to a not recently played Realm to be weighted the more games you play not going there?

Personally I'm more of a idd like to go see some new places, I swear if I see Nostromo again today…
Thanks for your time, hope you find it useful.

That's not a bad idea. Each player's realm history can contain a parameter for each realm which makes it more or less likely to get a realm depending on whether you've personally been in that realm recently. Said parameter can then be applied to a lobby-wide probability for each realm.

Presumably, the realm is selected by assigning each realm a total probability score based on the whole lobby's combined recent map modifiers, and then each realm's score is normalized. At that point an rng is used to select the realm, then the map is selected next.

Do they not do that already though?

They DO do that, but only negatively towards those played maps and we don't know how many matches it works for.

Going by the fact I have seen Nostromo so often, it might not be for so long.

Okay, I think BHVR does not save more than just one match since we have been at Nostromo 3 times tonight.
