Can't open game after bugfix patch update 8.6.1 on steam

I play on steam and I can't seem to open the game after the most recent update, the game will load but will get stuck "loading shaders" for more than 20 minutes without any change. The game was running fine before this update and I was able to load the game and play without any issues. I'm missing out on the blood moon event because I just can't play.
