Blood Moon gens, White Glyph...
Hello everyone.
Today I wanted to write about my thoughts regarding the BMG(Blood Moon Generators) that require blood as fuel, (WG)white glyphs that require you to bring them to the basement, and their potential in regards to addressing the complaints of generator repairs being boring. While this is my first forum post I have been playing Dead by Daylight since 2020, with The Blight and The Twins being the first releases I was around for. Over that time I have heard how boring generators are too many times for me to count and I think the solution to this complaint may be within the BMG and WG. I would ask you for a moment of your time to read my post and share your thoughts.
I would like you to imagine a normal match of Dead by Daylight. You go to a generator to start repairing it only to find you can't start at all because it lacks fuel. You head to a pump on the map to get the blood required, which will always spawn opposite of basement on maps where applicable. Pretend you are playing on Family Residence(a Yamaoka Estate map) and the basement has spawned at Main Building; you would go to Shack to find the blood pump. Two generators on a map would spawn without having the fuel required to start the repairs and filling them up with one to two jerricans of blood would allow repairs to start.
Now imagine you are in a normal match of Dead by Daylight. You have the generator 90% and suddenly can no longer repair the generator because it has a broken part. You have to either go to the basement, where you would find a workbench that spawns where the other basement chest did not, to fix the part before returning it to a generator without it breaking(like how a WG can break when you are bringing it to the basement ). Alternatively, if you had brought a BNP(Brand New Part) in a toolbox you could use that in place of going to the basement. Two generators on the map would require this interaction. This would work similarly to a WG while also giving new life to The Huntress's Territorial Imperative perk.
I think a lot of us can agree in the potential shown by the BMG and since the developers have already put in some of the work to put them into the game I don't think it's outrageous to consider a small rework to the mechanics of it to make it a permanent feature; even though the BMG as they stand should not come to the base game. Similarly, WG are also in the game and I think getting a similar special item from a generator would be worth considering. By ensuring four generators spawn that require one of these two special interactions we get some more varied gameplay by having to do at least one of these four generators. If we instead make it three generators instead of four(two BMG-like gens and one WG gen, or two WG gen and one BMG-like gen) then it is possible to not have to do this game but likely something that still gets engaged with depending on how the killer is playing. Killers should be unable to tell which gens require which special circumstance to repair. This could be tested by the developers as a Special Game Mode much like the Blood Moon is a game mode, or 2v8 is a game mode, to gauge community feedback.
I thank you for taking the time to read this post,
