Plans to retire The Compendium...why?
So in the post today about the new Rifts and Quests, hidden away at the bottom of the article is this line:
"While we ultimately plan on retiring The Compendium, we still want those older challenges to stick around for a while."
My question is why retire it at all? What do you gain from removing it? And what is "a while"? Is it a year, 2 years, 3 years? Because now a new element of stress and FOMO has been added where I feel like I need to rush through all 23 Tomes worth of challenges or else i'll miss out on all the rewards and bloodpoints. And this is on top of all the new challenges from the quests.
Why not just keep The Compendium there forever so current and future players can always have access to it. Not only for the rewards but as a literal archive of your progress and achievements.
And what will happen to all those charms, banners and badges you can earn from them? Will you then start selling these free earnable cosmetics in FOMO auric cell only bundles? I have so many questions.

Well now I feel like an idiot for 100%ing every single Tome. What was the point if they’re just going to remove them? I might as well have just done the bare minimum to get through The Rift and called it a day.
Kind of insulting for them to get rid of it after people have put so much time and effort into them. Thats genuinely thousands of hours of gameplay.

Because screw uniqueness, we want to be as similar to Fortnite as possible.
Isn't that right?
Because why keep the old color pallet of rarities, when we can be boring and change it to a stock option that's an active downgrade.
Why keep our old Archives when we can have generic Quests instead.

Yeah, I don't like them getting rid of the Tome. They could have just made it so future Tomes work a little differently: select a Tome chapter instead of individual nodes, and multiple challenges can be completed in a single match. Personally, I like that idea a lot better than what they're going forward with. But that or some variation of that would be fine. And maybe have special challenges that can be selected apart from chapters, like glyphs, so we can still have glyphs but they're not loading in every match unnecessarily.
And I really really don't like the phrasing "stick around for a while." Even if they said it'll stick around forever, it's not like BHVR has never changed their mind about something. "For a while" implies they're already planning to remove it in the future.

I literally just made this account to comment here.
Please keep the old Tomes in the game. Maybe change them in some way or implement the old challenges and rewards into the new quest system. Just don't remove them completely. The challenges are mostly fun and the overall design of the Tomes is actually interesting unlike the new quest system.
If you really intend to remove the Tomes, at least consider giving players some way of earning the old challenge charms/badges/banners.

100% agreed. Having a big pile-up of quest content, ranging significantly in difficulty, with 0 time pressure and only minor cosmetic content locked behind it, is an amazing asset for this game. Personally, after taking a long break from this game, the Tome content makes every match feel more productive and interesting in my progress, with or without the Rift.
The only substitute being offered here are the milestone quests, which are also ephemeral with each season, and will become so grindy at a certain point that players will stop paying attention to them. And so if you've done all the Rift weeklies, and there's either not an event on or you've done your event quests too? Log off I guess, you're done for the day. BHVR aren't just leaving engagement on the floor here, they're going out of their way to bury it.
The new Quest system should not be incompatible with non-expiring quest content, and I see no reason why BHVR thinks it is.

I don't get it either. It just awards bp and offers some unique little challenges to spice up gameplay. There is no reason to remove it. Letting it stay won't affect the game negatively, but instead enriches the gameplay experience (or if people aren't interested, they can ignore it).

one reason I can think of is that keeping them means they have to maintain them. Some challenges can get buggy and need fixing and then there is also challenges that might be tied to perk effects which may be reworked and thus resulting in challenges that cannot be completed anymore.
also, i though the charms can only be obtained when you complete the levels while the rift/tome is active?? But anyway, they will find their way into the in-game Shop eventually I would assume1 -
I didn't realize they were getting rid of the old tomes :( I have all of them done except for 21 and 22… but if they are just going to eliminate them, why bother? I worked very hard (before the last two updates) to have 100% achievements and 100% tome completion… now I'm a bit behind with the two tomes and 4 achievements to complete… but still… if they get rid of the old tomes, I will be sad :(… they are sort of a bragging right.

BHVR trying to attract all the new FNAF kids just for them to leave within a week 💀

I suspect this is a move to encourage people to play more regularly. With the old system you had unlimited amount of time. With this new system the quests will disappear after a while. Am I understanding that correctly?

Honestly trying to find a quest to do in the tomes was incredibly annoying and hard as well as all the casuals I play with ALWAYS forget to put on the Quest. I mean honestly, How would you have kept the uniqueness and fixed all of the problems with it?

You can currently actually get the reward charms on every Tome page no matter when you complete it, even if it's after the rift has closed. It felt really nice to slowly earn the older Tome charms.
But on the original topic I completely agree, I hate how much FOMO stuff they're adding. I know this is eventually going to make me not care about the game since I can't keep up with it anyway.

I‘m happy with them changing it. I no longer have to select any challenges and they are done passively. That‘s a win for me.

I assume because of some stupid higher up who is demanding the DBD to be more like other games, even (or maybe especially) if it makes things worse.
