Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Streamers biased against Kaneki?

Many streamers have voice their discontent with Kaneki, saying that he is boring to play because it requires little effort on their part to get results, which is first of all misleading and second, very untrue. Kaneki is one of the more skillful killers to play, and I think they are biased against him.

Kaneki should be a highly respected, highly revered killer within the community. What can we do to change this?

A killer that forces survivors to loop instead of mindlessly prerunning can only be good for the game.

People say anti loop is unfun because it forces you to run away, well, that's perfect then because all you need to do is run to a loop and make Kaneki play dbd

Fact is, maps suck bologna. Hyper mobility requires Hyper awareness but what do you do on Haddonfield besides immediately explode?

Kaneki is a true pub stomper, probably the biggest dbd has. Kaneki wins off little mistakes. Moreso than Blight. But Blight is just a consistent powerhouse.

Ghoul still needs some nerfs but his design will be good in the long term. Meanwhile, weaker killers than him do not deserve to ever be as strong as him. A clown or knight pulling in Ghoul results would get nerf batted very fast

what can we do to change this (the perception that he is low effort, high reward)? Easy answer: everyone who is complaining should actually try playing killer themselves. As usual, most of the complaints are coming from people who never play killer and would probably struggle mightily if they actually tried playing themselves.

Everyone who will inevitably downvote this, please feel free to prove me wrong with evidence

As long as he has a hit scan auto aim attack, he is quite literally the polar opposite of a skillful killer.

    • Reduced Reticle aiming on Survivor detection for grab-attack by 94%.

    What's that?

I am well aware that they reduced it, but it should have been removed. He still has auto aim, it just no longer covers the entire screen, but still lines up his reticle for him if he just looks in the general direction of a survivor.

Thing is, this is coming from some of the biggest names in the community. I learned about this opinion in a consultant's stream. Apparently, other consultants agree as well, which is insane to me.

I don't want to see another nerf to Kaneki, ever. If we could have a Kaneki-esque killer every 3 months, this game would be the best it's ever been in its 9 years. I've been playing killer since 2016 and the game is in its best state right now.

You have to click on the survivor. The cursor doesn't move for you. If you're talking about the animation that comes after, I have nothing for you.

Yesterday I watched a streamer's match against me while they were playing as Ghoul and from their POV they were getting the most braindead BS deep wound hits on me and my teammates without any effort. The guy wasn't even sweating while doing it, he was just staring at his screen like a mindless zombie on autopilot. That's how braindead and free Ghoul still is. I'm still getting regularly hit through walls and large objects despite his supposed "nerfs" he got and it feels so demoralizing every single time it happens. How/why could you or anyone possibly justify this?

I'm not sure what you're referring to—most individuals who actively participate in the forums have likely already tried him out. The general consensus appears to be that he's significantly overpowered and requires minimal effort to use effectively.

As others have already pointed out, it appears to me that you may be the one exhibiting bias in this discussion—especially in light of the statements you’ve been making.

It is difficult to imagine how anyone could reasonably justify the existence of a killer like this in the same game as one such as Legion. The disparity in power between them is simply too great.

Edit: It’s also worth noting that he has been receiving criticism largely because similar concerns have been raised about other overpowered killers for years, with little to no change. As a result, many players have grown disillusioned and stopped advocating for balance adjustments in those cases as it seems useless to do so.

He does feel very powerful/unfair at times. Like maybe he's slightly overtuned. I'd like to wait until they release his killrates, so we have an idea if he is overperforming and then how much. I can enjoy facing him, he has the potential to be really cool and fun. But being able to be hit through walls, from bottom floors to the top, things like that really put a bad taste in peoples mouths. Content creators are people too, at the end of the day.

I mean, I got hit by a Rize once when I just got unhooked, and she was hooking someone else from up on one of those hills across the map by the wall. Immediatly I ran, went through shack as it was in the middle of the map and right next to my hook, and was turning the corner when she managed to get me while I was pallet side, and she was across the shack, standing at the open door. The tentacle went through the gen, opposite sides of shack but the hit still registered. I tried to slam down the pallet right after, and the prompt didn't show up because it propelled her forward so she blocked the pallet so the pompt wouldn't pop up, and when it did pop up it was too late and I went down.

I got it on video, so I stop-watched it, and it was 11 seconds from when my feet touched the floor and I was downed (you can hear me spamming the spacebar at the pallet in desperation lol🙈) The sound effect from the other person getting sacrificed right before I got unhooked hadn't even ended yet by the time I was down, and over the shoulder. That kind of stuff… feels really bad. I mean I just got off the hook and immediatly ran, not staying under it, but it didn't end up mattering. I was on the other side of shack and it didn't end up mattering. Pallet was still up in shack and it didn't end up mattering.

I think he's slightly overtuned but not OP, and I think he can be really fun to vs. But again, I'm not sure because I havent seen the stats/data yet. It could come out and his killrate is 60% which would mean he isn't overtuned at all, so my opinion is kinda shaky and not definitive because I don't have any facts to back it up yet. All I can go off of is how it feels and some videos of those crazy downs or hits he's managed to get through walls, across rooms, etc.

Why would it kill the game? The response to Kaneki has been great, almost everyone is happy about his release and I haven't seen any complain worth acknowledging. Now we need even more Kaneki-esque killers to make it even better! There is only one way, and it's up!

People don't enjoy playing against him actually, the response has been awful. The only people defending him are those who are trying to gaslight the community because THEY enjoy playing easy mode.

So many of my casual friends have outright stopped playing DBD, didn't even bother playing during the 500 percent bonus.

I hope BHVR are paying attention, it's sad i can't just go "Hey lets go fool around on dbd and be silly"

I don't like playing victim simulator. I want to play SURVIVOR, not VICTIM.

I think you have to differentiate between the gameplay and the outcome of the games.

The gameplay of Ghoul is really fun IMO. A bit too much screaming, a bit too much cringe, but using a grappling hook as your power (the tentacles are basically that) is fun.

However, if you want to feel challenged… The Killer is not really that good. Way too easy and way too much reward for the effort you have to put into. And therefore it does not really feel satisfying to play him, even if the gameplay in itself is really good.

Personally, I rather play a weaker Killer and have to put more effort into winning than the other way around, because it feels more saftisfying and fun when you win after putting effort into the game.

Agreed. The response to Kaneki has been predominantly negative. He gets hits that don't even make sense, and has powers that when coupled together, make him annoying to play against. It doesn't feel like it's a survivor vs killer match, but more of a 'how much does The Ghoul mess up?' match.

I haven't bought him yet because I don't think he makes sense in that context. Sometimes I'll play Nurse, Billy, or Wesker, but all of them involve some amount of skill development to use their powers effectively, even though they're all at least reasonably strong. Since release, Ghoul seemed like a killer I'd be a little embarrassed to play much because of how easy it appears to use him. I'll gladly stealth around with my silly Pig mask on instead of playing as Kaneki :D

So either your trolling and rage baiting (in which case, well done you got me)

    or

you never play survivor once. The reception to kaneki has been great from the killer side (not suprising, regarding the killers state) and absolutely horrible from the survivors side (also not suprising regarding the killers state)

Due to how Kaneki is designed, he takes very little skill to achieve very good results. The combination of extremely high mobility, a uncounterable free hit (through walls) with deep wound and great synergy with strategies like tunneling and camping as well as a wide variety of perks makes this killer extremely awful to face.

Its like playing against an even more annoying legion that has less counterplay and is a LOT stronger because of it.

Either you exclusively play killer or you somehow found the miraculous counterplay that most of us are desperately looking for to make this killer more bearable. In case of the latter, feel free to share your insight. We would certainly love to know.

Kaneki is disliked not because he is strong. Hes disliked because of HOW he is strong. Big difference. Releasing a killer like him every 3 months would make playing survivor a living hell, and therefore reduce that playerbase to the likes of the killer population during dead hards prime.

I have been playing killer since 2016, exclusively. I have only played three games as survivor and I regret them every single time I think about it. My mind is untainted from the survivor perspective, and I see things clearly as how they are, or even, as how they should be.

As for the counterplay thing, I don't know what to tell you, it's not my job to know how to counterplay Kaneki. This being said, I'm sure he has counterplay, it's just that no one has figured it out yet. I pray to the heavens that no one finds it, and he remains unchanged. That would be very fun, playing killer lately has been the best experience ever in DbD and no one can say otherwise.

No offence, but if you want to realise how this game is supposed to be, you should very much play both sides. This isnt a single player game. There are two sides that should be taken into account for every change.

I also mainly play killer. Doesnt change my awareness to whats fine and whats not. Your mind being "untainted" by the survivor perspective is not a good thing if you want to talk about improving the game overall (that means for all players). Its bad because you exclusively look at one side, losing any ear from the other side.

I deeply encourage you to play both sides to get a better picture of the issues not only with Kaneki but with dbd as a whole. Its gonna be an eye opening experience if you exclusively played as killer for the last 9 years.

If no one finds counterplay, he is most definitely gonna get changed. That logic makes no sense. For overall enjoyment, a character that has no counterplay HAS to change. I absolutely understand that you have a ton of fun. Survivor players also had a ton of fun when they could insta heal from the ground to healthy using a syringe, instantly finish a gen using a bnp, crowd the rpd library with boil over or dh for distance over a trappers trap. Its fun for you. Not fun for them. There has to be a balance between the two.

Again, this is no singleplayer experience where you can play something completely overtuned and nobody cares but yourself. If you want to do that play a singleplayer game. In dbd though, there are two sides that HAVE to be taken into account.
