Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Should Spirit attack after phasing be an special attack?

She's a strong killer, always running sloppy and exposed perks makes her hard to avoid. But I don't know, I guess making her attacks after phasing be special could be a nice balance thing, but what do you think?

Spirit feels okay where she's at. She's already not played that much these days.

I also think that's a bad way to nerf killers as it kills their build diversity, so less fun. Nerfing would be better done in how their kit works than just limiting what perks they can use.

That's not exactly doable, at least in her current state. Let me explain…

There are not two types of attacks. There are three: Basic, Special, and Sub-Basic.

Sub-Basic Attack has been defined to me as a "Basic attack with additional properties." Historically, Sub-Basic attacks were counted as basic attacks with perks, but all, to my knowledge, have been reclassified as Special attacks. The list includes: Nurse's Blink-Attacks, Legion's Frenzy, and Pig's Ambush. Demo's shred is another example, but it's always counted as a Special Attack his entire life on live servers.

Spirit's attack is NOT a sub-basic attack. It is, 100%, a purely basic attack, just like a Wraith's lunge out of cloak. What happens is that their lunge range is extended, not because of a property of the attack itself, but because of their movement speed out of cloak/phase. You can replicate having an extended lunge by simply having haste; it's not a special property of the attack.

In theory, they COULD create an entirely new, specially made attack for her out of phase. However, not only would this be a bit of work that could easily be bugged, but it would also need to seamlessly transition back to her "normal" attacks, given her lack of any fatigue or cooldown state. And, if they did add this state, you're essentially creating an entirely new killer, so you're reworking Spirit in essence.
