Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

The new lighting/shaders for cosmetics

In the latest update, the developers added new lighting and shaders for character cosmetics. However, I’m not a fan of this change.

I understand that the skins didn’t always perfectly match the in-game environment before, but with the current lighting system, the update just shifted the visual issues elsewhere. Now, instead of characters looking slightly out of place, the cosmetics suffer from noticeable lighting problems due to the system’s limitations.

Another issue is that the new materials applied to the cosmetics have drastically altered how about half of them look. Many now appear bland or completely different, which makes them less visually appealing. They also often no longer match well when mixed with other cosmetics—something that was important to many players who purchased them for customization.

A second major problem is that the appearance of the skins now varies significantly depending on the map. This wasn’t the case before. On some maps, the surface of the cosmetics reacts strangely—like puddles—reflecting light in odd ways and casting unrealistic shadows. The result is inconsistent visual quality across different maps. Players want their characters to look good no matter where they play, not just on a few maps with decent lighting.

Please consider reverting these changes or at least adjusting the shaders so cosmetics don’t look broken or overly dull, like a sheet of paper.

Attached are several examples showing the poor lighting on skins (all captured on Ultra settings).

i like the change, but i agree that the art team needs to now revisit all the old cosmetics for touchups.

Alot of the brighter colours on cosmetics like reds on Rebecca's new outfit and Claires Jacket really dull and muted now too and it's unnaturally shiny.

    unnaturally shiny

I've noticed this with the Onryo's cosmetics too. Particularly her red flowery outfit. Her skin is all shiny and reflective, which isn't how flesh behaves. Odd thing to change.
