The quest system is not how I imagined it
I was excited about the quest system, but it's not really what I was picturing. I thought what was going to happen was that we would get the same suite of challenges as in the Tomes (maybe with a few changes) plus some milestone challenges, and we would just be able to progress those challenges all at once.
So, like, we'd load into the game and see that there was a challenge to escape as Jane, and a challenge to get three stuns in a single match, and a bunch of other, simpler challenges like "Do x number of gens," and then we could load into a match as Jane and hope to escape and hope to have a chance to go for stuns but, even if that didn't happen, we could still progress the milestones through normal gameplay.
I have played a battle pass like that before, and it's true that there was always one pesky challenge that was hard to get, and you had to keep grinding for it at the end, but most of the experience was of getting rewarded frequently — not just for playing, but also for being clever and strategic about how many challenges you could knock out in a single match.
As it is right now, the quest system feels like it's just a slightly faster way of gaining passive Rift progress by playing. It feels really slow. It feels like there's nothing I can do from my side to try to speed it up. I have no goal to focus on and, from a UI standpoint, it takes a lot of clicks to see how much I'm even progressing (and then it turns out that, even if I do complete multiple challenges, it's not that much).
Maybe this is just an early iteration of the system and it's going to change, but it's definitely not what I was excited for.

Yeah, the variety right now is pretty poor in comparison. I hope BHVR realize this so the new system does not become a cheap, modern replacement, regardless of the ease and rewards ofc. The actual quests you can do are very important too.
However @Hex_Llama we have not seen Week 2 yet, who knows, maybe BHVR is sitting there with all the aces smiling at us.

I came to say I hate this new system with all my soul, and it's likely the last time I buy a battlepass after buying all of them for years.
It's that stupid fortnite system where you start off ripping through tiers and then the milestones start getting huge at the end, riiiiiight as you get to the best rewards… and uh oh, the season is about to end. GUESS I HAD BETTER BUY THE LAST TIERS.
It's not happening BHVR. Tell whatever corporate bro that gave you the idea to get back into his Chrysler and drive it into the ocean. I've got a job. It's heavy. Previous battlepass system let me play casually and still get my battlepass done. It's what made me willing to buy the battlepass to start with.
Fortnite has an enormous, addicted playerbase, with all sorts of variations in their game that lets them get away with this kind of miserable FOMO driven monetisation tactic.
You don't.
Wind back the clock on this one. I liked the tomes. I liked unlocking the lore. I liked picking my own challenges. I didn't mind giving you money.
I hate the quests. I hate the Fortnite model. I hate the boring, uninspired grind. I hate that you've pulled lore out because you're lazy. And now you get no money.
Good luck.3
