More Detailed Quest System Suggestions/Feedback

Having played with this system for a few more days and having seen a bit more of it, I feel more confident suggesting some more specific changes. The same caveat as before applies to one thing, though: We still haven't seen what the second batch of weeklies has in it, so for the sake of staying on track with things that can already be witnessed to be lacklustre, I'm going to take it on faith that future weekly challenges will be more interesting and less "just play the game".

If they aren't, I'll circle back around to criticise it, lol.

So, the way I'll format this is to take a look at the remaining categories and give more in-depth feedback for each one. This'll be the two current ones - Daily and Milestone - and one extra one that I suggest be added alongside them to round out the system. We'll start with…

Dailies

Here's my biggest feedback: Dailies should infinitely refresh.

Make it so that dailies refresh with the same rewards they currently have right now, but the first three you do in a day give extra rewards, bringing those first three back up to roughly where daily ritual BP rewards were in the previous system. I don't see any issue with this, as even people wanting to grind just dailies for the consistent but lower rewards still have to play matches to do it.

In addition, I suggest adding a few more categories of challenges to dailies, to lightly shift towards guiding someone's play and loadout. Since these are just dailies, the requirements can be pretty low, which in turn lowers the chance of people throwing to get them done quicker. The following are just some suggestions, but I hope they somewhat define the scope I'm suggesting here overall:

  • Deplete [Item] 1 time (the challenge would specify which one, not just any)
  • Cleanse or Bless 1 Totem
  • Open 1 Chest
  • Make Survivors scream X times (low number, but probably more than one)
  • Reveal Survivors' auras for X seconds (ditto, low number, easily achievable)
  • Hit Survivors while Undetectable 1 time

Basically, stuff that might've been some low-grade tome challenges before, but with lower numbers because you're expected to cycle through multiple over the course of a low number of matches.

Moving on, we have…

Milestones

My feedback is much more sedate here, nothing nearly as transformative. I noticed that the higher tiers of each Milestone quest give progressively larger rewards for completion, and I think that's great, I'm very into it. My only feedback is that 10 seems quite low, I'm already about halfway to completing a couple Milestone quests. Sure, they'll get slower as they raise, but still, if it's meant to last the whole duration of the rift I think it'll probably max out too quickly.

I suggest doing one of the two following things:

  • Raise the maximum tier to 20 instead of 10, with the requirements and rewards both scaling appropriately

OR

  • Make tier 10 infinitely repeatable for the same requirement and reward (this may actually be how it works since I'm not at 10 yet for any of them, but I do doubt it)

Just something to make them feel a little more long-term-grindy, both in general and especially for people who play very infrequently and just want some simple challenges to grind out over the course of a few dedicated days.

Finally, the tier I suggest adding…

Master

You may have noticed I didn't suggest any character-specific quests for dailies, like they used to be, and that's because I think they should go here. Where previous Tomes would've had "Master Challenges" that typically revolved around specific characters or perks, that's where these would be.

The simplest way of doing it is to make them somewhere between a weekly and a milestone, more specific challenges or ones with higher requirements that focus on whatever characters are specific to this tome. Play as the character, play with their perks, that kind of thing— what the old Master Challenges were.

That's really all that needs to be said on these challenges mechanically, but I also do want to point out, I've seen people say rifts won't have lore in going forward, and if that's true that's a HUGE letdown. The Master section of challenges would be a perfect place to put new lore, as well.

I'll cut my feedback short here so I don't ramble forever, this is the main stuff I wanted to convey about the new system.

Oh, yeah, and before I leave- change the name back to Rituals? It'd really tie the new system together.
