Please Bring Back Support for Stretched Resolutions or Remove Forced Black Bars
Hello BHVR team,
I wanted to give some respectful feedback regarding how Dead by Daylight handles aspect ratios, especially for players using stretched resolutions or non-standard monitors.
Right now, Dead by Daylight forces black bars on the sides of the screen when using any resolution that isn’t 16:9 — even if we try to scale or stretch it using GPU settings. This wasn't always the case, and many of us used to play the game in custom/stretched resolutions to better match our preferences or hardware setups.
- 4:3 and 5:4 resolutions are hard-locked with black bars.
- Ultrawide monitors (21:9 or wider) are letterboxed, which cuts off screen space unnecessarily.
- No launch options, GPU scaling, or config edits can remove these enforced limits.
- Other competitive games allow it (Apex, CS:GO, Valorant, Fortnite, etc.). Players can choose what resolution/aspect ratio they want to play in — it’s not an exploit, it’s preference.
- Stretched resolutions can help with visual clarity, especially for lower-end PCs, or players with smaller monitors. It also just feels better for some people, especially long-time FPS players.
- Killers are allowed to adjust their FOV in the game settings. If killers are given the option to change how much they can see, why can't survivors choose their own preferred resolution/aspect ratio?
- Modern GPUs and monitors have advanced scaling options, and most gamers know how to apply stretch safely. Blocking it at the game engine level feels unnecessarily restrictive.
- Remove forced black bars for resolutions that aren't 16:9.
- Allow players to use custom resolutions and aspect ratios without restrictions.
- Treat FOV/stretch the same across both sides — if killers can adjust FOV, let survivors adjust screen scaling/res.
We're not asking for an advantage — just the freedom to choose how our game looks and feels, like we can in nearly every other modern game.
Thank you for reading — I hope this is something the team will reconsider. Let the community customize the experience again. It would go a long way in terms of accessibility and player comfort.

Do you know WHY it's like that? Because people abused it and WILL abuse it. You just gotta deal with it.

Yes, I know. But I feel it's unfair to allow killers an FOV slider and survivors can't do anything remotely close to that.

Even with an increase in FOV for killers, their POV is strictly limited in comparison to the elevated 3rd person POV survivors enjoy. I'm still able to FOV tech killers daily even after the FOV slider implementation so I think calling it "unfair" is quite a stretch.

Yeah no, survivor players abused this to see the killer over long wall loops. Very bad idea

Even then, I'm not really asking for the advantage it gave, but to get rid of the black bars and zoom in the game so theres no advantage given. The black bars are hideous to look at.
