Idea Proposal: Map Voting System
This may be a hot take but I think this would really change up the game and also eliminate Map Offerings to free up the blood web. Here's my proposal:
I think the game should have a map voting system similar to Call of Duty. And when I say map, I more so mean realm. You do not get to choose specifically what variation of a map you will get (so for instance RPD you can't ban West Wing specifically).
Each player prior to queuing up for whatever role, they choose ONE map to ban from the voting poll. This is NOT a guarantee that the map will not be available to vote for, just lessens the chance to appear. So for instance all maps have a 100% chance of appearing, but your ban drops the chance to 20%. This way a Trapper player can ban Eyrie as Eyrie is hard to hide traps for example.
When you load into the lobby you will see the 3 options available. Each survivor counts as 1 vote, whereas the Killer counts as 2 votes. You DO NOT see what is being voted on and you will NOT see what wins until you are actually loaded into the game, so you can't change up your load out based on the winning map.
I know how people will take this - this gives an advantage to SWFs. But not necessarily, I think this would give killers more of a say on where they go, with map offerings getting a nerf in this next patch. My personal hot take is the only time a killer truly needs to use a map offering to benefit their build is a Scratch Mirror Michael Myers - basically if you don't get an indoor map, you will absolutely lose the game. Or a good 4 man swf won't be guaranteed the win because they brought Eyrie against a Trapper. I am a part of the "I hate map offerings" club. I think anyone who brings them has a game plan to make the opposite side absolutely miserable and I don't find them fair, especially when there are so many maps that are unbalanced and can literally make either side win or lose. Sure, if all 4 survivors in a swf vote for a specific map it will win the vote, but how is this any different for a SWF bringing a map offering? Keep in mind the devs have posted that majority of the playerbase is playing solo or duo and these things shouldn't be balanced around 4 man SWFS even if they are the strongest thing in the game. Nurse and Blight are the strongest killers in the game but the devs simply cannot balance everything around those two killers alone.
I think this system could also help the Devs determine which maps need more work on balance wise - seeing majority of survivors are banning this specific map, killers are banning this map, more survivors are choosing this map, killers are choosing this map. Or seeing maps that DON'T need touched because the are fairly balanced - both sides are voting on these maps together majority of the time.
I think this system would help make the game more interesting, random but also more of a fair chance of having a say on where we will be playing at. Removing map offerings from blood webs would be a huge plus to see more Bloody Party Streamers in the blood web. Hell if somehow all 3 map options are indoor maps, you can change your hatch at shack/main building offering for something else instead of wasting the offering. Just an idea that I thought maybe the devs can consider one day to change things up for the better. What are your thoughts? Any other suggestions to make this system more viable?
