Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Can we just make VPNing a bannable offense already?

I'm sick and tired of playing against killers with 300+ ms latency. Especially since they know they're abusing it by the fact they swing at every pallet.

Or better yet just don't let someone play if their ping is too high. Your ######### Internet should not make the game actively worse for everybody else...

People have asked for this many, many times. I don’t know if the devs have ever officially responsed to this, but it’s very clear that they have no intention of ever enforcing ping limits in lobbies. Hell, they don’t even want you to be able to see your ping or other players’ pings until the game starts and then you find out that you’re stuck in an unfair match.

They are prioritizing player numbers over player experience, and so far it’s working out for them because very few if any players are quitting the game because of this issue.

True most killers powers dont work well with high ping, the active ones like rushes, dashes, tenticle strike.

I don't think they should ban VPN's as some places like China have literally no option but using a VPN.

A better way is definitely a ping limit, as I see far too many killers very obviously abusing ping to gain advantage. There is no Legitimate reason to be on our servers (OCE) in pretty much every case, as they have servers far closer that would have much better ping.

I regularly use ExitLag to play NA servers but I ONLY play survivor and it puts me at a distinct disadvantage, as I get hit around corners or 10 feet through a window. So I cant greed and have to pre-drop etc. I would never play killer on NA as it would be unethical but others don't have any problem with being unethical.

@LemonMan As a Nurse main of many years, I can tell you this is absolutely false. The game registers your attack in favour of the survivors position, so the survivor will see themselves 10 feet away from you and still get hit.

@I_Cant_Loop Yep, sadly I think you're right on with that one

    No.

You can´t and should not punish people for a bad internet connection.

Sadly you will always have people who exploit everything that is possible - but i always (try to) think good of people.

Yeah, but you would punish the ones who just have a bad internet connection as well.

Just like the self unhook - because of the ones who abuse it we normal player have to take the bad consequences now because they took it away.

Sorry but if you have 300ms ping without a VPN, sucks to be you but you absolutely should not be playing PVP games online.

It is unfair to everyone else who has to play with you and your problem is then ruining the experience for countless others. You can still play coop games and many MMO's but not games like this.

Someone having bad internet should not be the problem of everyone else.

Except I did, as killer hits take priority (as I said) so if you have bad ping it puts you at an advantage. It didn't need any long winded explanation, the survivor will see a hit that is nowhere near but because killer takes priority they still get downed.

You may have overlooked that crucial part of my response.

They should just let survivors see the Killer's ping in the lobby

At least then dodging bad ping lobbies is way easier

But you do know that the game is banned in China and therefore shouldn't be playing it, right? There's a reason why they shouldn't be using VPNs, and I'm sorry, but why do the rest of us have to pay the price? It's not like you get one or two a day; there are many, not counting those who do have servers nearby but don't use them, preferring to be 300ms killers and give fake hits to win... So... basically the VPN should be banned.

That's never going to happen because it would make it impossible for those killers to play (survivos will be dodging that lobby everytime). That's why they never even show the player's name. It could be done, but this mechanic of not being able to see even the name of the user who plays killer is done this way on purpose, unfortunately.

right - the majority who have good connections should suffer because of the minority who have bad connections or are exploiting with VPN. Terrible take

What if the player doesn't live in an urban area and only has access to high-latency connections like cellular or satellite internet?

Not everyone is intentionally trying to exploit lag, some just don't have better options. It's a tough situation, and yeah, high ping ruins the experience, but blanket bans might hurt people who are just doing their best to play.

I am not about making legal arguments for those people in places where the game is banned, however they have servers far closer to them and again, they are playing on your servers (and mine) to exploit ping, at least in part.

A ping limit would eliminate that and force them to actually play on Asian servers, which I suspect they dislike as they are super sweaty in my experience.

Then hard luck, don't play PVP games like DBD where your bad internet ruins the experience for EVERYONE else who has to put up with the consequences of YOUR bad internet.

Sucks to be you in that case but this should not be made the problem of everyone else. As I have already said, you can still play plenty of Co-op or similar games, or play survivor even as this puts the disadvantage (mostly) on you.

Playing killer while knowing you have bad/high latency internet is completely immoral and unfair and should not be permitted

I'm mostly a Survivor main for the challenge, but when I was helping my uncle with his house in Alaska, I had to set up temporary internet service since we were only going to be there for a month. I used a mobile-based provider that allowed me to choose from major cellular networks, though options were limited in Cordova. The first network I tried kept randomly cutting out, while the second one was more stable I occasionally hit 600ms ping spikes. That said, those were only at select moments.

My friend and I wanted to play the 2v8 mode together, and I didn’t hear anyone complain about high ping. That’s why I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. Just because latency might show up high at the moment you check, that doesn't necessarily mean the whole match was affected the same way.

Trust me, it sucks getting pulled off a pallet I know I cleared. But it also sucks being economically displaced and made to feel like you can't play with the other 'kids' (even though most of us are adults).

Well, if you know your internet is terrible then you should have the decency to not ruin games for others by making them suffer for your problems.

However you may not have seen me make it clear the issue is really with killers who exploit ping, it isn't really a thing with survivors as it doesn't put you at an advantage, it puts you at a distinct disadvantage as you no doubt learned very quickly if you played on ping that high.

Even then, 600ms is obscene and you really should be blocked from playing anything but PVE games online, 200ms is high but 600ms is literally moon ping. Considering if I try to play on European servers from OCE (literally the other side of the planet) my ping is 340 - 360ms or so on Frankfurt

Yeah, i get what you mean.

I have a different opinion in general. Imagine you have a bad internet connection for whatever reason and the game tells you - to bad, you can´t play anymore - i bet yoo would be very sad.

I am happy i have no problems but i can see that there are people who do.

As always it comes down to the ones abusing stuff to make it worse for everybody else :-(
