Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Dead by Daylight Ultrawide Issues

I love playing Dead by Daylight, but the current ultrawide implementation really hurts visibility and consistency. Right now you offer two choices:
- Native ultrawide: The vertical FOV is chopped off at the top and bottom, so you actually see way less than on a standard monitor.
- Forced 16:9: In-game you get black bars and a “normal” FOV, but all menus and loading screens remain stretched to 21:9. Jumping between 21:9 UI and 16:9 gameplay is disorienting.
Why this is bad
Switching aspect ratios between every match makes it hard to focus. Your eyes constantly have to adjust to different letterboxing. On ultrawide screens, it also feels like you’re playing through a tiny window.
Two fixes
- Extend the letterbox everywhere. (easy fix)
Put the black bars around menus, loading screens, HUD, and in-game view so everything stays in 16:9. Don’t put UI elements outside the 16:9 view either. - Dynamic FOV scaling. (best fix)
Automatically calculate and set both vertical and horizontal FOV based on the player’s exact aspect ratio. That way, everyone—whether 16:9, 21:9, or anything in between—sees the same amount of game scene without ugly cropping or bars.
Either approach would make the experience much more playable and fair for all monitor types. Thanks for considering these adjustments!
