Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Why is Bill's the only one that can only be bought with iridescent shards? I really want it but a bit confused why there isnt an auric option. Im newer to game and doubt I can get that much before event end.

    • By "contract" with the license holders (Bill is a character from Left 4 Dead) his cosmetics cannot be purchased with "real money" but only with the "imaginary" currency of the game

Oh ok that's so interesting! I assumed there was a reason was just curious why - and i always forget hes a licensed character bc of the iridescent shards (usually it's only auric).

To add more information, Valve is very free about letting developers use their IPs, as long as the devs can't make money off of them. It's why Bill is free, his rift cosmetic was on the free track, the cosmetics you can purchase for him are Iridescent Shard only, and why Dwight, Meg, Claudette, and Jake each have a L4D set (that I don't think is actually structured as such, but they're there) from the moment you get the game.

It's also why we're unlikely to receive further L4D content, since BHVR wouldn't be able to profit from it (so definitely no chapter), anytime in the near future.

For the outfit, they've said that they're looking at ways to put all of them in the store at a later date, since this is the final Masquerade, but who knows when that will actually be.
