Suggestion to Rework the Obsession Mechanic and Mori Usage in Dead by Daylight
Content:
Hello Behaviour Interactive team and fellow Dead by Daylight community,
I would like to share a suggestion regarding the Obsession mechanic and the use of Mori in the game, which I believe can enhance both gameplay tension and strategic depth.
Currently, the Obsession role in Dead by Daylight offers limited benefits beyond certain perks like “Hex: Ruin” or “Hex: Devour Hope,” and the interactions involving the Obsession are often subtle and sometimes underwhelming in terms of impact.
My proposal is as follows:
Allow the killer to use Mori on the Obsession survivor at their second hook stage (second hanging), rather than only at the third.
This would significantly increase the psychological pressure on the Obsession survivor, making the role more meaningful and intense.
Limit the total number of Moris per match to two, and after using Mori on the Obsession survivor at the second hook, the killer can only Mori one additional survivor in the game.
This restriction helps maintain game balance and prevents the killer from becoming overpowered (OP).
This change would:
Increase the risk and tension for the Obsession survivor, encouraging more strategic and careful gameplay.
Enhance the killer's tactical options without breaking game balance.
Make the Obsession mechanic more integral to gameplay, adding a fresh layer of psychological horror and excitement.
I believe that this adjustment would deepen the overall gameplay experience and encourage new strategies on both sides. Thank you for considering this idea, and I look forward to feedback from the community and developers.
Best regards,
Elias Afton

That would just make it easier to tunnel out a particular Survivor, and that's the very last thing we need right now.

Thank you for the feedback that's a fair point.
To prevent tunneling abuse, maybe this Mori could only be used after chasing the Obsession for a certain amount of time, or only if no other survivor was recently hooked.
The goal isn't to make tunneling easier, but to give the Obsession role more weight and urgency, without making killers overpowered.
Open to refining the idea more if others have thoughts!

Thanks for your input! You're right that tunneling is a real issue and no one wants to make it worse.
But my intention with this suggestion is to increase tension and teamwork, not to encourage toxic play. If the Obsession role had real consequences, teams would be more careful about who gets chased and would have to protect each other better that's the thrill I' m aiming for.
I'm totally open to tweaking the idea to avoid abuse.
Maybe the Mori could have conditions or cooldowns to prevent tunneling.
Would love more thoughts on that!
