Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Massive buff and nerf to flashlights

Remember those days when flashlight blinds were practically instant? What if we could bring those back, but being blinded doesn't force the killer to drop a survivor? Instead, being blinded causes the killer to slow by 20% and increases attack cooldowns by 25%. This of course would stack with Champion of Light, or be improved by the perk in some way.

Why do this? Flashlight saves are usually quite difficult to land when the killer knows what they are doing. And they're pretty much impossible when the killer isn't locked into an animation because they can simply look up, or down, or any other direction.

I think it could be more fun to make getting blinds quite easy - but I don't think killers should drop survivors just because they got blinded. Though imagine if after being blinded, being slowed for that duration and not being able to see auras for a short time could hamper their ability to get to a hook. Perhaps there could be a bonus to wiggle progress as well. In any case, it would still probably take multiple blinds to get a save.

I think these mechanics: being able to get blinds far far easier, but making an individual blind less punishing could make the game more interesting and fun. I'm not sure if it would make too much difference anyway, if the killer already sees a hook and makes a mental note of where that hook is before picking up. But this is the idea I've had rolling around in my head and I think it could be interesting, maybe with some more polish.

I think if they did this I would never take off lightborne.

Interesting idea, but I don't think anybody would like these changes on either side. It would take away the threat of the flashlight, the reason people take that item over a med kit or toolbox, and turn it into the most annoying, seizure-inducing, toxic bullying tool this game has ever seen.

Instead, I'd be more interested in buffing the range of flashlights to make blinds safer to attempt while preserving their counterplay and skill required to pull off.

I don't think this would work as a basekit feature.

    Add-on, maybe.

But BHVR removed instablinds for a good reason, so…

This sounds like a cool idea for a Perk for Survivor,
The Survivor on their should gain wiggle progress bonus as you fail to blind the Killer. A nice way to benefit even if you suck at flashlight saves or want to feel useful while training to do it.

Combine this with Champion of the Light, Fixated, Breakout and you could probably save a teammate by doing that.

Also, while we are at Flashlight Perks.
Idd like a Perk that makes me heal my fellow survivors with my flashlight, the healing light, you shine on them and the healing bar goes up. It could be a cool way to benefit from a Flashlight if you are bad at landing the saves. This way you could even blind the Killer and help heal a team-mate self-caring under the hook taking a hit.

Combine this with Empathic Connection or Do No Harm to Heal a slugged teammate through a window cause I'm a coward.

That's enough gold perk ideas for today. 😜

I do not think that removing one of the few interactions with the killer Survivors have would be a good idea, insta-blinds aren't fun for anybody, they're not skillful, the Killer cannot react to them and so on…
