Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

The new map (item) changes should be reverted - partially at least.

The new map (item) changes posted in the forums made me really disappointed. I love using maps - especially for totem hunting or getting lost on indoor maps to find gens. I have a little over 500 hours and yes I still can't track things very well and maps have really helped me find stuff that I would not have found. I think it is a very underrated item that most people sleep on, but that doesn't mean it should be completely reworked.
I like the idea of the rework but I wish we got a new map item variant instead, which allows players to choose between reading auras of vaults/windows or totems/gens/chests/etc. The new rework feels cheap. It's just Windows of Opportunity packaged into an item, and it's not like people are going to stop running Windows anytime soon anyways so it will only appeal to the people who don't have Kate.
I enjoy the gameplay of the current map items and it's sad to see it turn into something unoriginal.

Give it a bit of time, lets see how it is maybe it helps with the whole gen rush situation.

They are testing it in PTB after all.

You have not even seen what the add-ons will do so how you know they don't have an add-on that tracks totems, chest and all that. Like you are here talking about changes you only know small part. Sorry but these are good changes.

Eh, I kinda feel current Maps are just a bad version of Detective's Hunch packaged into an item.

Also, to my understanding, new Maps will still be good for finding Generators as a basekit feature. Something about while the Map's Windows effect is active, you can put down a light beam for Survivors (like Glass Bead) that also reveals nearby Generators. I assume the Addon reworks will also help maps specialise in tracking different things if you want.

I do understand the feeling of being defensive about something weak in a game that you still really enjoy using, I have felt that way about a few things before. I hope the reworked Maps can still carry some of the appeal/uses of old Maps and if not more Addons should be thrown in for them so they can fit that more information-oriented rather than chase-oriented purpose. However, for now I'm optimistic

I think it's a fine change and probably healthier than just using WoO all the time, plus it might convince people to bring something other than a toolbox or a medkit to stack with their generator and healing perks. Genrushing is currently quite high because Survivors are staying in games longer, and coordinating together more. There's also currently another healing meta thanks to buffed Botany (which never needed it) and Orela's perks.

I would much much rather see these new maps, keys, and the new fog grenades in a lobby than yet more toolboxes and medkits, which are likely to have BNP+Spool on a Commodious or have a syringe they can stack alongside their Orela perks and Botany Knowledge. Right now everyone is running these, and it feels obscenely, obscenely sweaty from Killer side.
