Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

I miss old dbd

Before anyone says it, I know dbd used to be so much more unbalanced but that’s not what i miss. What I really care about is how the old maps used to look and how unique they each were, like how haddonfield and Macmillan were blue. Now they both just have this basic gray color with nothing unique besides the loops. I get that some maps are special but what I’m talking about are the maps that came before the whole map overhaul stuff. Even though some maps kept there color like autohaven they were just so much darker back then which made it feel more like a horror game and had a much more different vibe. I guess they did this to make them not look outdated compared to newer maps which is valid but I can’t help but to miss it. Also, why did they change the movement a couple years ago for survivor? Nobody asked for it and I STILL don’t forgive them. It was so much more fluid and satisfying.

After saying all that, I still don’t know if it was truly better back then or if it’s just nostalgia. Everyone has there preferences I guess.

Likely just nostalgia. Whilst old DBD had an amazing atmosphere and aesthetic that's pretty much the best part of it. I much prefer the balanced state of the game. If they just threw some fog on the maps we have now and reduced the crazy amounts of clutter (Toba Landing for example) we'd be cookin.

I don't miss the balance and toxicity of old DbD, but the atmosphere and charm was 100x better. I personally never found DbD to be all that scary, but at least back then it was trying to be. Licenses were a rare treat and actually fit the game unlike nowadays where the devs clearly are just picking whatever will gain them money and popularity. The menus and animations were so much more creative and unique, while the ones currently feel so sanitized and bland, same with killer power design too actually.

I still love this game, but I'd be lying if I said there weren't a lot of things I missed from the early days.

I miss its old cavalier spirit. I do not miss its old broken things.

In old dbd i didnt care if i got tunneled, you died so much faster back then that it was like hide n seek, if you get caught, your most likely alredy dead because they can camp you through your 1 hook stage. If someone came to get you off the hook you go right back down and be able to join the next round easily. Didnt feel so personal where the killer now actively goes out of their way to take allllll 3 or 4 of your extra chances away before even touching anyone else. Moris used to be an oh crap hard mode setting where the killer can end people faster. Now its like why would u bring one of those instead of 100% more points?

For me it was the wildness and chaotic nature of the trials I miss most. We hadn't efficiencied out so much of the joy yet.

And of course the blue/green aesthetics of the oldest realms. The Coldwinds were nighttime, and you couldn't see from one end of the map to the other, no matter the moonlight offerings used.

With the amount of aura reading there is in the game, I really don't see how dark maps would be that crazy. People would complain regardless about not being able to see. As well as the fact that people use filters to brighten their game which results in unfair advantages between each individual player.

That being said, I do miss the more "horror" atmosphere also.
