The Lack of a DC Penalty Has Improved the Game
I actually think removing the DC penalty has drastically improved the game.
As killer, I've only had one match out of the last two dozen or so where people DCed early when the game was still "winnable," and that might have just been because it was on Hawkins which is a pretty universally despised map.
I won every match except two, but they're all relatively close; most had only one generator left or the exit gates were powered. Thing is, I make it a goal to spread hooks around because I'm not worried about getting the 4k like my life depends on it. Most matches I still choose to let the last survivor get hatch or leave.
The point is, I'm not noticing any uptick of DCs in my killer games due to the penalty being removed. What I am noticing is that, in my survivor games, people feel free to just go next if the killer's hard camping / tunneling. It's also hopefully eye-opening to Behavior to see just how many people are DCing the moment they hear Kaneki's terror radius because he's just not fun to face.
In the end, it's much healthier than the old "struggle on hook" was; while they aren't perfect, bots still at least do stuff and allow killers to progress tomes if they feel the need to play like it's a competition. Survivors are also allowed to find a match that's actually going to be fun for them.
As a killer main, I think it's a win-win.
