This entire thread in the dbd subreddit AMA points out something went very wrong recently. People are noticing, which means things are in really bad shape.

Somewhere between the FNAF chapter and the masquerade event it came back. Hits from extra far, through every window and pallet, and even when the game is at ultra graphics settings.

This also from what im seeing effects ranged killers specifically huntress, springtrap, and deathslinger canceling their shots/hits but the main victim is survivors. It doesn't seem to be every game, but it seems to be 50-75% of my games have overwhelmingly bad hits as a survivor with 30-40 ping depending on the server im on. Even when some killers have 30 ping as well. Its possible it could be related to the graphics settings of the killer(s) as was in the 8.3.1 patch(and "tentatively fixed") but this may have been still possible to override with the config file or come back. If nothing else, and they somehow messed up the netcode, server, hit validation code, or were experimenting with any of this, it is in a significantly worse place then it was before.

I'm really hoping this is addressed with the TWD update and the engine upgrade that's coming with it.
