Unable to decline old friend requests on Xbox
SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE:
Xbox used to have a friend system where you would follow someone and they would follow you back. Following someone used to be considered adding them as a friend. Xbox has since changed the friend request system. Nowadays you have to send a friend request and the other person has to accept the request.
This change broke the friend system in DBD though. If you had someone follow you on Xbox before the friend system was changed, they would get added to the "Friend requests" list in DBD. Then once the friend system on Xbox changed, those old follow style friend requests on Xbox simply went away. If I had someone following me before, they wouldn't show up as a friend request now. The problem is that in DBD those friend requests are now pending while on Xbox you don't have any friend requests for those in game friend requests. These pending requests are stuck, because DBD still thinks those old style friend requests exist while on Xbox these requests don't exist. The only options in DBD are "View profile" and "Block". You can remove people from your followers on Xbox, which was considered declining friend requests on Xbox before, but that is not considered to be declining the friend requests in DBD or on Xbox today. Selecting "Auto decline friend requests" in game does remove the request temporarily, but it always comes back after restarting the game.
When the game syncs friend lists during the initialisation, it should simply decline the friend requests that do not actually exist anymore. Right now I have tens of people who have technically sent me a friend request, but I can't do anything to them.
To put it very short: People could follow your profile on Xbox before, which was considered to be a friend request both on Xbox and in DBD. Xbox scrapped the follow mechanic in favour of traditional friend requests. These old follows did not get converted into friend requests. DBD still thinks I have a lot of pending friend requests because I had a lot of people following me. Now I can't remove these pending friend requests because on Xbox I don't have any pending friend requests and in game it doesn't give me an option to accept or decline these requests.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW THE ISSUE OCCURED:
Before the Xbox friend system was changed:
- Have someone who plays DBD follow you on Xbox
- The game now shows this as a pending friend request
After the Xbox friend system was changed:
- The game still shows these pending friend requests
- Xbox does not consider follows to be friend requests anymore, so on Xbox there is no friend request that you could accept or decline
- The friend request does not go away even if you remove the other person from your followers on Xbox, which was the old way of declining friend requests
- Now you are stuck with pending friend requests in game that you can't accept or decline
