Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Let's talk about the new map.

Wow I didn't think I'd ever be back on the forums again to give critique because I took like a long 2 year break but I digress. This map made me come out of the woodwork in hopes that maybe my feedback can contribute.

So firstly, the walking dead comes to dbd, cool. The survivors look great despite issues with their sounds, it can be fixed.

The map.... This is where I loaded in and just said oh no. I want to preface this by saying I'm a walking dead fan. Have been for years. I've also been a fan of almost every license dead by daylight has in their game. I've loved every licensed map they've released including the map variants in already existing realms (pizzeria comes to mind. Love the aesthetic of that map). So why do I have a problem with this walking dead map? Well.

The map is insulting first and foremost. Why isn't twd deserving of its own map and realm or at the very least a map within a realm like the pizzeria? Tell me there is any iconic locations in the series to limit it to a single low grade tile. Why is twd the only license to release with such a low effort and half assed attempt with a map? Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alien, Stranger Things, Halloween, Fnaf, etc all come with their own maps or at least a map within an existing realm.

The "map" itself has to be the worst map ever made and released. The only "cool" thing about the map is the dead inside don't open with the sound effects and that's all it has going for it - legitimately there is nothing else. The atmosphere is just murky, there aren't really any tiles, it's just rocks and filler pallets with a killer shack. There is nothing about this map aside from dead inside don't open that would tell me this is a walking dead map. Nothing about this map shows the love and appreciation of obtaining the license like they did with RPD - that map, while at release was problematic, is beautifully detailed and gorgeous. You're in the world of Resident Evil when you load into RPD but Fallen Refuge? Twd? Where?

I'm disappointed and frankly, a little insulted this is how the franchise is being treated. There is no reason it didn't deserve it's own map.

This map never should have been released, it's awful.

Please, for the love of god bhvr, remove this map and tell us it was a prank. That you're pulling it to give it the love and identity it deserves. Please consider reworking Fallen Refuge completely. It's such an awful map and probably the worst you've ever done. I'd like to step into the world of walking dead if there's to be a map, lose myself momentarily in the immersion and what we got instead just leaves me empty and not taken away like I was with RPD. It leaves me looking around the map alright... Wondering how in the world is this supposed to be based off and inspired by the walking dead. I load into that map and I don't feel no love or care that went into the license which is disappointing because I know you're capable of doing it with my most referenced example being RPD.

This map sucks in every single way. I made a post about all the issues this map has. But in short: This map gave BHVR more work and us nothing but misery.

I would love to talk about the map, but it NEVER shows up, at least for me it doesn't. Even with the offering (which is useless as it seems to guarantee you do not ever get that realm) I never see it. The fact that there is an escape achievement attached to this thing, that is apparently the rarest map in the game, and survivability on it is so low… Just…what were y'all thinking when creating this map?

I thought the tile was supposed to appear on almost any map if a TWD character was in play? Why didn't you go through with that?

It has a low spawn rate for sure. Myself, I've only seen it twice. If we're talking balance wise on top of aesthetics it's absolutely atrocious to play as survivor. Absolutely terrible.

The map has an ugly tint, the map doesn't resemble its license at all, it has bad tiles, the achievement is hard to get for people (I was lucky enough to get it first try so whenever I do get that god forsaken map I do other gens and let others have the chance to get the middle gen for the achievement progress). I have never felt more depressed loading into a match as I do when I load into Fallen Refuge.

I just hate that map so much.

For real. To play devil's advocate real quick here to BHVR, I think they put themselves in a pickle with the community either way. I was thinking earlier I would've been happier if they had taken the critique from the ptb of how people said this map felt vastly unfinished and announced they were holding off on its release as it didn't hold up to their standards or the standards of the license in order to make a full and complete map (I still would've loved if they kept the don't open dead inside door) but then I realized.... The community would be complaining either way. They had two options: hold off on release of the map or go through with this "map" knowing this is the version that would go live.

Personally I think holding off would've been a better option to do the map and IP justice because I don't think I'm alone in saying this but the vast majority are very unhappy with this end product. It sucks. Beyond measure.

Yeah the filtering is very ugly. I don't know what they were thinking with this map but I want to cry each time I compare it to the other licensed maps. It's so so awful

Not sure why this didn't quote you the first time.

It's the fact it wasn't supposed to be a map. There was no map on the roadmap with this chapter, they literally said "this is not a new map and it's just here to show off the new tile". So how on god's green earth they reached the conclusion to put in a literal TESTING ZONE, as an official map into the game is just… this dev team genuinely just cannot get anything right.

I think they had an idea, a vision for what they wanted to do - I believe there's this idea/theory floating around (don't mark me on this I could be very wrong and if so, feel free to correct me) they wanted this special tile to spawn in any map if a walking dead character was in play and it didn't work out resulting in leaving.... This as the final result. I would've rather them be honest that their vision didn't work and didn't want to give us an incomplete map, doing the IP dirty so they're pulling it to rework which would be released at a later date but nope. Never happened. Instead we get stuck with this most basic, beta, ugly play test I have ever seen in this game.

This map is disgusting in every way: to begin with, it has an annoying green filter for some unknown reason, and it is also far too small to play on, which in my opinion is a sign that it was not intended to be released because it was simply meant to be a test area for the new tile, which is the only decent thing about it.

It has a series of useless fillers with ridiculous pallets and, to top it all off, given its size, a problematic case of 3-gen (supporting video : https://x.com/alranican/status/1950313860407361916).

In my honest opinion, it should definitely be removed to be modified and then re-added when it is ready because in its current state it makes no sense at all.

Surely it's not finished and they will expand it like what they ended up doing with Shelter Woods. R-right?

I hope they can get special tiles working. It would be really cool if they would go back to chapters that didn't get maps and add them as well. For example for Sadako Rising having a tile spawn with her Well if she is the killer would be pretty nice.

They could have addressed this easily.

Pretend I'm BHVR for a second

"We apologize to all of The Walking Dead fans out there. We want to craft a map that fits perfectly into the world of The Walking Dead and Dead by Daylight. We're so excited about this crossover, that we wanted to be able to share the incredible work of Andrew Lincoln, the voice of Rick Grimes, and Erikka J. Veney who is voicing Michonne, that we decided to go ahead and release the characters. We want to insure we create the most authentic experience for The Walking Dead map as possible. So we have decided to hold off on the map's release until we can guarantee the quality that you've come to expect from us at BHVR"

how hard was that? I did that for free

I'm not a big fan of TWD; in fact, zombies bore me. BUT even I thought, "So... that's it?" The Easter Egg isn't even scary. In fact, the ONLY time I went through there, I didn't even notice it; I was too busy thinking about my chase. The map barely even appears. The little I saw of TWD was from the early seasons, and I remember the prison very well. In fact, in the main menu of DBD, we can see the prison. I thought there would be a similar map, but no...
Anyway, the map reminds me a lot of those small maps with almost nothing on them, or the "zero zone" of the cinema, which is all rocks, trees, and a few pretty bad pallets, especially if you're lagging. TWD map is a map that gives me a huge advantage as a killer. I played the Plague, but obviously they didn't even make a gen. I don't want to imagine a dash-based or tp-based killer like Kaneki or Springtrap, which are the most common ones these days.

It will become hell… This actually reminded me of a meme in the community that said that, as the maps in the game were evolving, we would soon see maps without structures, with few pallets and lots of vegetation.

I still think that this map was never supposed to leave the PTB in the first place.

They wanted to just add the tile into the other maps, but feedback and issues with the maps themselves (you could NOT fit this on Garden of Joy, without it being too out of place and extremely strong)

This map is bad and very killersided with full of weak pallets and very strong 3-4 gens next to each other and its small. Idk how killer can lost on this map.

    Such a lazy boring map.

It having an achievement tied to it is the icing on the poop cake.

    Don’t Open, Dead Inside
In a public match, complete the generator at the Fallen Refuge and escape.

Pathetic. Map Offerings in Solo Queue are a 1/5 chance to work. On top of that it's an additional 1/4 chance to get the right map due to Fazbears being in the SAME realm for some reason.

One tile. One Window Pallet Gym disguised as Licensed Material. Some sound effects. Some custom textures. That's what we deserve? That's what we get as long time fans of this game? $200 in DLC over the years. I don't even want to know how much money they made is cosmetic sales. And THIS is what we get. A Map with ONE new tile that is being credited as a MAIN BUILDING GENERATOR.

    Disgusting. Horrendous. Pathetic.

I feel awful for the design team. It must have been hell knowing the backlash they'd get from this lack of content.
