An angry but somewhat rational rant about the Ghoul
I do not own the Ghoul, I have not played the Ghoul, and if I did, I am absolutely certain I wouldn't mind him as much as I do. It's one of those things where it looks unfair from my side, but genuinely takes a lot of skill from the other side. Again, I don't really know, but I assume it is that way cause it tends to be.
The ghoul is my most hated killer in DBD. I would rather fight Legion/Oni in 2v8 without a doubt. I'd rather fight nurse/blight, etc. That said, DO NOT SKULL MERCHANT HIM! He's annoying, overpowered, and he adds to the sense of dread I have when I hear a New Chapter is coming out. That does not mean you should nuke him, and then leave him for dead like Skull Merchant. I hated her too, maybe more than other people because I overhyped myself, thinking she was going to be the Terminator. Still, I did not like how they handled her nerfs.
For Kaneki, most people I assume hate him because:
- The Free health state, and deep wound.
- The way the attack kind of bugs out sprint burst and impacts certain perks in seemingly unintentional ways.
- Can easily catch you out in a dead zone, and kind of produces a lot of them.
Other killers with similar problems exist, and they do have people who hate them, but they tend to have an excuse for it.
Legion has to actually reach his target, which means he has to avoid being pallet stunned, spend a good amount reaching his target, and doesn't really have the tools to down you with an M1.
Singularity can catch you out in a dead zone pretty easily, but doing so puts him in a wake up state for 1.7 seconds, giving you about 6 meters leg up on him, and he doesn't have a guaranteed injured state like Kaneki.
As far as solutions to these problems go, I have an imperfect set of changes that I would like to hear critique on. These are subject to being buggy.
From now on, the tendrils have a longer pull time depending on how far the target is. If they latch onto pallets or windows, the pull is faster, and if not, it's slower (Note: Grabbing the pallets/vault location is not faster than his tendrils currently work. It's just faster than walls or props.) This way in dead zones with no pallets/windows, his ability is weaker, and your not in a dead zone, his power is a little stronger.
This also might add more nuance to this killer, as this gives incentive to leave pallets up for quicker maneuverability, similar to Dracula and his bat form teleport.
As for the free health state, at very least they should remove deep wounds. It's not like Legion who has a mechanic centered around it (hitting a deep wound person shuts off power unless it's the 5th person) or Death slinger who you can dodge the attack from without cover (it's not easy, but Kaneki can only miss if there is cover).
To me, there's an important rule of killer design: whatever utility the power has needs a way it's outclassed by not using the power, other than just ability cooldown or skill requirement. If you use Hillbilly's chainsaw to break a pallet in 1 second, you have the downside of spending 2 seconds winding it up. If you use Huntress Melee hatchets to cut down on chase, you sacrifice 1 second of wind up, for an attack that's more avoidable than a point blank melee attack, to save 0.9 seconds on attack cooldown. If you're sneaking around as wraith, you literally can't attack people until you decloak.
Some killers break these rules, such as Ghost face and how his night shrouds only down side is you can go on cooldown when revealed, but such benefits are given in very minor doses. I don't know of anyone arguing Ghost face is overpowered.
Kaneki however, I feel has so much maneuverability, but not even some of the downsides other killers do.
Edit: I take that back. He does have down sides to using his ability, but there's so many little upsides that it's kind of null. But in terms of other killer equivalents to his power, most of them have way better weakness.
Pallets Vaults: Mastermind pays with a wind up period so you can run away, and Legion has a 2 second Feral Frenzy cooldown so he can't hit you right after the pallet vault. Roughly the same applies to their window vaults.
Free Health state: Plagues infection takes a good amount of time actively or passively. Legion, we already know isn't going to down you to easily with just Frenzy.

That 3. point is kinda meh tbh there are atleast 15 and maybe more killers which can create dead zones or catch you in them and punish you heavily not just ghoul, blights has restriction but his power is just way better and creates much more dead zones and situations where you get hit and only thing you can do is try doge and hpe he will miss but shoulderfick exist.

Just remove the hit scan. It's training wheel nonsense that puts this killer's skill expression in the dirt, like is really too much to ask Kaneki players to actually have to aim their attacks. Literally every other killer has to aim, sure Springtrap has some fairly generous auto aim with his axe but it can still miss if the player is off with their throw.

The automatic lock on thing and free hit is probably my biggest gripe, but I've just stopped trying against him in solo queue, cause I know how it's going to go. Meg is gonna go down in the first 20 seconds, get hooked and instantly go next. I wouldn't usually defend this behaviour, but Playing against Ghoul feels like fighting a losing battle in solo, so I don't blame them.

I know. Like I said, there are other killers that have that same problem, and speaking as a singularity main, I think singularity is a bigger proponent of this problem. The big difference is the dead zone killers either are set up killers, or they are killers who have a wind up attack that can be dodged.

If you mean its alomost impossible to get rid of singularity if you are slipstreamed then you didnt heard about blight who doesnt need to infict slipstream from biopods and just is rushing you down.

Dont make his hit hit so cheap and make hitbox smaller you say thats solid idea.

Yeah but blight doesn't literally tp to you. I'm not saying blight isn't overpower/singularity is too weak. But Kaneki I think is better at getting you in a dead zone because he doesn't have blights turn restrictions, and the movement is way faster.

All that depends on your surroundings if theres open area then singularitys tp or ghoul are better, blight needs objects to bump into but still he is better that these two and his 10 seconds cooldown for all his rushes with 115% on cherry on top means if he wants to get you he will still be behind you no matter what only some indoors like larrys or vecna map tp can shake him off but thats only because he cant easily rush to you.

i hate the ghoul :( he's like a gentrified legion… all the legion players who like easy injuries have moved onto the ghoul bc hes low skill easy wins :( the whole gameplay loop is just such a snooze…. loop ghoul > out play ghoul > ghoul vaults over pallet and wins bc they vaulted the pallet :( if i act sad enough maybe the devs will feel sorry for me and nerf him :( :(
i like blight, double speed blights can choke but i like blight, mainly because he actually requires skill, not like this ghoul guy :(
