The current rift fragment system is not friendly towards casual players. Here's some suggestions.
Hey, hello there.
I will try to keep this short, although I have many things to say, all of it involves the current Rift Fragment system and the fragment nerfs.
Before the quest system rework players used to be rewarded 1 Rift Fragment every 500 XP (1/10 - 10% out of 10)
But after the quest system Rift Fragments are rewarded at a rate of 5 every 500XP (5/100 - 5% out of 100) so it takes double the amount of games to get the same amount of rift fragments.
But now Milestones rift fragments have been nerfed by a whopping 55% when compared to the previous Rift. Now each Milestone level gives a total of 25 rift fragments per milestone level achieved, it doesn't increases like it did on the previous rift, previous rift when this milestone system was implemented the first milestone level would give you 10 Rift Fragments at level 1, consecutively increasing by 10 on each level capping at 100 at Level 10 (A total of 550 rift fragments per milestone, now each milestone give a total of 250 rift fragments)
Sure, we got 1 extra daily mission as compensation, problem is: Not everyone can play the game every single day. Some people can only play on their weekends (And sadly DAILY MISSIONS DON'T ACCUMULATE) so whatever games they can get they will not only get fewer fragments from their matches from getting 500xp but also each milestone will grant way fewer rift fragments (Which for a casual player those milestones can be a grind of their own, not every player plays survivor or killer)
Some people have other things to do or get burned out from the game, I myself took a break from the game because of all the many issues that have been around. But after checking my current Rift Rank and how much time left there's until the Rift ends I feel like I will have to do every single daily if I want to get all the rewards, and even then I will barely have a break until the next rift starts, I will burn out from the game because of it. And that doesn't even account for any that could arise in the future, if the game were to become unplayable for a week then I would miss an entire week's worth of daily missions.
I will make emphasis in the following paragraph to make something very clear
If you can play DAILY the system works perfectly, you reach Rank 100 and you have time to spare.
But if you are a casual player that can only play once once a couple weeks or during the weekends a couple hours then daily system is quite hostile, specially because even finishing milestones is a grind of its own.
Once you run out of weekly missions and milestones (Which as I've mentioned not only do they now give fewer Rift Fragments, but also most casual players will never play enough to reach Level 10 on each of them as some don't play the killer or survivor role) then you wont be able to finish the Rift in a comfortable manner and you are required to farm daily missions (Which obviously are time-limited or play an insane amount of matches for the 500xp 5 Rift Fragments reward)
I (Myself) will most likely reach Rank 100. But I know not everyone has the same amount of time to spare to play a videogame, DEAD BY DAYLIGHT is supposed to be a distraction from daily life, it's supposed to be entertainment, this feels like a chore and I genuinely hate it.
I'm personally not a fan of FOMO (Fear of Mission Out) in videogames, I know there's more hostile games out there, but I also know there's less hostile games when it comes to "season passes" and I wish more companies would take the same approach as games such as Deep Rock Galactic or Outlast Trials. Both of those even go as far as letting you play previous seasons and earn their rewards without any time grind outside of specific seasonal events that cycle through the year and repeat.
My recommendations to become more accessible for casual players and players with fewer hours/days per week to play this game, so casual players don't feel left out and everyone gets a chance to get their cosmetics are the following:
- Give 10 Rift fragments every 500xp to make each match feel rewarding and less grindy: This would put the Rift Fragments per match be the same as it was before the Quest rework system.
- Revert the milestone rift fragment nerf: Milestones are grindy enough as they are for casual players, the fact they give 55% fewer Rift Fragments baffles me, it FORCES you to do dailies, that's not very healthy and being burnt out from the game.
- Allow a certain amount of daily missions to accumulate (Perhaps 3 or 4 days worth?) : This is honestly the best thing you guys could do, people that play every day will still continue to do their missions normally, but this way people that don't play every day or can only play during the weekends can do a good amount of missions comfortably without having to worry about connecting every single day multiple times a week so they can get cosmetic content. I'm sure many would welcome this change in a positive manner.
I really hope it gets addressed, because it honestly feels like most people don't care to put themselves in the shoes of players with fewer hours to play the game. You mention not everyone can play the game daily and they for some reason disregard you saying "Oh well I play daily 10 times per day and I've almost finished my Rift, the system is working perfectly!" like… what? It feels like being in crazytown and no one cares about the players that don't have that much time per week to play this game.

Thanks for the support, wish more people would show their support so at least it comes into the developers attention.
At least leaving a comment keeps the post somewhat active.5 -
it FORCES you to do dailies, that's not very healthy and being burnt out from the game.
This. My friend and I play the game a lot less, now. And when I say that, I mean we hardly play at all. We do the dailies and that's it, we pretty much want nothing else to do with the game. Not all games, just DbD. I'm playing the hell out of Lords of the Fallen. Even grinding the same spot for 5 hours in LotF is more appealing than playing one more match of DbD.

And its really strange because other games at least give you a decent chance farming their season rewards as fast as you wish without having to waterdrop anything for player retention, but here if I want to grind by playing the game outside of doing quests it feels as if I was punished.
You did your quests for the day and would like to get some extra Rift Fragments? Well enjoy playing 20 games for 1 (ONE) singular (ONE, 1) Rift level. That's on average 3 hours per Rift level (That's assuming your matches are 10 minutes long, we all know some games last longer than that)
You started playing late on the season? Well sorry but no Rank 100 rewards for you because the Rift quests are NOT enough to let you finish a Rift in a timely manner…1 -
I will say if you play a lot during events and modifiers, it does boost you quite a bit without dailies in between. You can catch up with any Rift challenges during that time too. But I do agree that for a game targeted to an adult audience, the amount of leeway they give is pretty minimal. Most adults don't have the free time to no life the game nor the disposable income to buy the Rift outright (the $70+ I mean). It should be a lot more accessible.

I mean what you get from events and modifiers is also a specific amount, it has the same issues as the weekly missions.
But I do not understand why they seem so allergic to allowing people to comfortably complete their rifts, I really hope they let us accumulate daily quests, I feel like that would be the best way to allow people that don't play daily catch up.2 -
How can I know if the developers are aware of this post? Generally speaking does one just makes a post here and hopes a dev sees it and leaves a reply or they can just look at it and not say anything?

exceptionally rare to get a direct response, and being very blunt, 'players would like it if the game were less stingy with rewards' is probably not earth shattering information to bhvr
2 -
I wonder how many hours they expect you to play... I think I'll not buy rift anymore if I'm didn't finish it.

I usually don't buy it until I finish it…

The milestones rewards should get reverted at least.
We could also get a new type of Weekly Quest (separated in it's own category, so it does not interfere with rewards) that would be more specific, similar like the old Tome Quests. Memory Shards, perk interactions, Glyphs, killer specific things(also with a free trial for them, so you can do it), ect.

This would be good also.
But I still genuinely don't understand why they nerfed the fragments again, if player retention is what they care about then maybe they should put something worth grinding for at the end of the Rift instead of 5k BP per extra level.
I personally feel like the current quest system is lacking, a part of me is glad they don't ask you to do really stupid things like "Cleanse 50 totems in a single match" or something like Old Tomes used to do basically requiring to throw a game in order to finish a quest, but what we have right now barely feels like an improvement compared to that.2 -
I play regularly to atlesst do the dailies, been done the rift for quite a while now. My friend plays only wednesday and thursday, shes just finnished getting the sable outfit.

Its almost like the Rift System was made to get people to do the dailies and keep a good player amount?

They encouraged using the Feedback/Discuss forum. Devs might not reply but doesn't mean they are not being read - likely filtered or passed along if a topic stands out.

12 days left, how are you guys feeling about your Rift progress? Will you reach Rank 100 in time?

We're at like 5 days and counting and… honestly, not good. This is likely going to be the first rift in a few years that I haven't been able to complete or finish the rift quests (since I don't play killer). I've never had a problem before. I likely won't be buying another Pass if this is the way forward. DBD shouldn't be a daily grind, that's just gross.

The funniest thing not casual players don’t really care about this.
Rift should focus on players who is in real need for some bp and other incentives

Yeah its crazy, not a good look how BHVR choose to not made any comment about this at all.
I am aware of casual players that do care about this, that being said what you are suggesting is more about a way BHVR could use to keep player retention, which honestly should given that the rift offers little to no reason for any veteran (Or someone that has finished their rift) to go beyond Tier 100. If at least the gave shards on the premium tier and maybe 10 times BP on the free tier…

I just doubt some comp sweat or try hard care about rift a lot, it’s pretty clear they would prefer focusing on matches instead
I think upping the way of getting iri shards is the only way to justify such rift changes honestly. RN In any senses, this rift not for casual, not for comp people.
If they wanted to increase interest in regular play, I'd suggest players receive daily bonuses for playing with certain builds/characters for actually high rewards. And for truly high achievements, such grinding should be rewarded with something more meaningful, like special skins or customization. If they're too busy to create customization, maybe they'd just give people one cosmetic of their choice for free from any original character

Full agree. Even just fixing the milestone progression and rewards would go a long way.
It would mean it's possible to grind for long play sessions on the weekend without being too punished from missing dailies.
My 8 hours of play on the weekends shouldn't be worth dramatically less than somebody else's 1-2 games a day during the week. That's ridiculous.

i support this and was about to create an own entry. it's definitely a hassle with so little fragments as a reward. when i suggested bhvr should change the tome system because it took way too long for casual players to reach lvl 100 in a tome i didn't think they would lower the fragments even further.
there is actually no sense in completing the milestones currently because they only reward 25 %, but take like 100 repairs/heals/matches etc. that's WAY too much effort for WAY too little reward. also i just had to play 10 matches in order to gain the last few tome lvls today because i didn't have any more quests available. that's not how it should be. i mostly only got 5 fragments for a match even when i got multiple iridescent emblems.3 -
People who play the game like it's their whole life finished the Milestones extremely quickly the first time around. They complained about it, they wanted larger goals to work towards. So, BHVR gave them larger goals, but they cut back on how much the milestones reward so they don't have much impact on the Rift, because most players are not going to get through those milestones. Instead, the focus is on completing the Daily Quests in order to finish the Rift. If players don't do a majority of the Daily Quests, they're unlikely to complete the Rift.
That's how it's balanced. Instead of giving players multiple ways to complete the goals, BHVR really focuses on one path. For the Rift Pass Quest rewards (the badges and banners rewarded for doing a specific number of weekly quests), all of the Weekly Rift Quests must be done to earn the final reward. Every single one. In the Tomes, players could choose a path to take, but now, there are no options. It sucks. This way of designing FOMO player participation elements is horrible for the actual player experience. They're forced daily chores where the rewards are too small to feel actually rewarding and the process isn't fun, so the inevitable result is frustration and burn out.

Milestones are still at 25 Rift Fragments per level and the quests are not enough to finish the pass.
Dailies are mandatory, assuming there's 5 quests per week at a total of 80 quest across all the weeks, 75 fragments per week = 6000 fragments total
60 Rift Tiers.
At least this Rift (For better or worse) is 114 days long… But I honestly think there should be enough weekly quests for someone to complete if they were to start up late.
If you are afraid of people rushing the Rift then just add most of the quests to the later weeks to avoid people finishing it too fast.2 -
Gotta get one of the popular and longtime forum people to post it.
Saw a sadako thread with like 50+ responses and great discussion get passed over, but one with like three posts from the in crowd warrant an official comment.
