The 6th Hook rule is actually genius design!
Because why is it that us Killers tunnel? it makes the game easier, but why? 3 people are easier to manage than 4.
So to make the power gained from tunneling worthless what do you do, well all it would need to do is rebalance the game from 4v1 to 3v1, this is why the 6th hook rule is so brilliant and not a nerf or a buff really. It just changes the speeds of the game, so that tunneling is functionally worthless.
"But but but, my special Killer Sadako or Pig they have a special attack that will penalize meee :C"
No, see this is why its even more genius, in the event that any Killers tunnels out a Survivor by accident cause they are not paying attention then it does not matter, because all it will do is rebalance the game rules from 1v4 to 1v3.
So should someone die, the game is still fair and balanced for the 3v1 gameplay.
Meaning the Game will continue and not be in the Killer's favor like usual. meaning tunneling wont give a Killer power.
Its actually incredibly genius, but if you only look at "it buffs survivors" and panic, you wont be able to see it.

I don't know if it's genius but there's always been that very boring dynamic when a survivor is out too early because the game becomes 99% unwinnable for survs.
3v1 at 3 gens left is just unwinnable and while it's normal killers get the upper hand, it shouldn't be that one-sided because it turns the trial into blood point farming but we all know how it's going to end. It's not fun for any side.
Unless you have a 100% speed bonus, 3v1 is still incredibly in killer's favor. At one gen left, it may be doable but at two or three gens left? If the killer overcommits to a chase and gets too confident, they might lose but otherwise it's GG WP.
That change is not bad, but it could reward survivors when they don't need to be.2 -
@HoS Yeah, the idea isnt flawless and perfect on its own, we can only hope BHVR has done their research regarding balance.
All the values are also up for rebalance again and again, but the genius of the idea is how it demolishes tunneling and just rebalanced to rules to keep the game up for grabs for either side still. That IS genius to me, surgical and precisely targeting at what needs to go.Honestly I just think the framing in the Dev Update was not painting the best picture for the design.

Value 6 is way more unrealistic and unnatural compared to value 4 since if they lower it to 4 it would match grim embrace and pain resonance proc

I would rather see it made in a way where it punishes a true hardcore tunnel (so someone dead at 4 total hooks)

True, but Im thinking this is also to mend how screwed games are when 1 Survivor is killed, so to do both then you can justify settling on the half way mark. I am not against early mid game tunneling also taking a hit.
Its about keeping the game engaging and constant until at least the half way mark. Which isnt a bad idea to me.

I get where you're coming from.
Imo, the other rule (sacrificing a survivor after hooking disables gen damage) seems worse by a long shot. Because you can do this on accident, especially with the change not showing you how many hooks you have on someone.

My thoughts exactly. 💯
When they are 1,2,3 out. Then sure. However, before the 6th hook? That’s half the hook count. 😅
I’m skeptical of the changes. Definitely I will need to test them.

What they should do is reducing the amount of hooks to proc this mechanic from 6 to 4 or 3, that way people who hard tunnel will be punished (if your only way to kill a survivor is hooking a single 3 times in a row your match is already lost, but anyways) and matches where survivors are being greedy by constantly getting the killer attention (killer hook 1, then another, then the first 1 again, then another one, and the first 1 for the last time) will not proc this mechanic since the killer is not tunneling at all, he's just chasing people normally
Also, i think the game should not be balanced at 3v1, it should benefit the killer if he's playing well, same way the game shouldn't buff killers midmatch if the survivors are playing well
I really dislike the idea of "if they make those prevention mechanics they can buff every killer" because half the killers are already bad or just mediocre but they rarely do anything to help them, if they simply nerf the S tier killers they will not have to do any of this imo
