2v8 Feedback (The Good and the Bad)
Hello!
Another round of 2v8 is now over, and I'd like to give my feedback as someone who has played both sides. I am a big fan of 2v8 and have played it each iteration for 20+ hours each.
The Good:
The new Play While You Wait mechanic is great, I have not played much 2v8 killer until this iteration, since I didn't wanna spend 15+ minutes in queue. This time I got around to play killer a lot more, which I think is great! Nothing bad to say about this, it's amazing and a good addition to the mode.
Chaotic fun: I like the most (and I say most for a reasons) are just chaotic fun. You never really know the outcome of a game due to the catch-up mechanics (I've had plenty games look like a loss until the gen speed caught up). Not that I expect to win often, for me the appeal to 2v8 is just it's a fast-paced and chaotic mode, compared to the usual 1v4.
Killer variety: There's a good variety of killers, which is great, however, there is one outlier (Legion, which I will get to soon), and I think they're mostly perfectly balanced.
The Bad:
Legion: This one should be obvious, they've been controversial since they got added to 2v8. I know they got "nerfed" this iteration, but they don't feel much different to go against, can still run across the map and consistently get 7 stabs. I said earlier that I see 2v8 as the fun, fast-paced gamemode, but this killer can really make it feel so slow and dragged out.
Legion just doesn't work in this gamemode, I know it might be hard to admit defeat, but I don't think they should come back. Legion is balanced with a power that makes it easy to injure everyone easily, but struggle with the downing. In 2v8 the downside means nothing, when you have A/S tier killers who completely remove that downside. This causes them to be extremely popular and overplayed to the point they're almost in every game. Legion is the only reason my friend group and I ever close 2v8; they are just miserable to play against all the time. It's either heal and got put into Mend again, or remain injured and go down fast against the other killer, neither are fun. Dead by Daylight is all about engaging with the killer and the fun chase, but there is no chase in either scenario.
Oni: Oni turns the game into a slugfest, while I think every other killer deserved the buffs for 2v8, I think Oni was overbuffed. He goes into power, suddenly 2-3 survivors are on the floor, he runs out of power, but it's okay because it's 2v8 and there's blood orbs everywhere, so back into power. You can't outrun him, you can't turn a corner, all you can do is hope there's a pallet and Escapist nearby, not that it buys you a lot of time against him. I think he needs to be toned down a notch, revert some buffs or make blood orbs disappear, while he's in power, so he needs new/fresh ones when he gets out of power.
Escapist: Honestly, I don't mind Escapist, but as killer Sprint Burst on Demand kinda sucks to go against. I can't count on one hand the amount of times I should've hit a time survivor, but they used Sprint Burst, and my lunge got cancelled by "Aim Dressing." Also, other Escapists can activate your SB?? If you're Escapist, you should be immune to other Escapists activation, if you insist on it remaining. Also on a side tangent, why do killers get roles that speed them up by 10%, while Escapist lost their 3% speed while injured?
Guide: Honestly, the new Guide kinda sucks? They don't really help. Blastmine is funny the first couple of times, but it doesn't do much. Scout outclasses Wiretap. The only useful part is slightly faster gates. It really sucks that you removed the +3 bonus from Great Skillchecks, it was my favorite thing about playing Guide. It could really help in clutch situations. Why did you take time to rework Guide, when you could've just added this as a new class? Survivors have been begging for new classes since the first iteration. Though, give Scout their 3% from Great Skillchecks back and I'll be happy.
Speaking of which:
New Classes when? Killers get 2-3 new killers to play with each iteration (except this one), when do survivors get a new class? So many possibilities, Boon class, Chest class etc..
I really hope you'll consider this for the next iteration. Especially Legion.. I know it must suck as a game dev to admit one of the killers don't work.. but he just doesn't. Legion (and Plague for that matter) just don't fit into the gamemode.
