You Can No Longer Change Your Steam Name with the Game Open - PC ONLY

SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE (Additions have been given below, not a duplicate post):
Following update 9.2.0, changing your Steam nickname no longer updates in-game without restarting the application. Previously, nickname changes were reflected immediately without requiring a game restart. (This was NEVER INTENDED and is a CLEAR BUG)

ADDING ON TO THE PREVIOUS REPORT WHERE NO INFORMATION WAS GIVEN WHATSOEVER:
This was never “intended” and was clearly a bug caused by the recent updates. Nobody had complained or asked for it to be removed, and no explanation was ever given as to why this was done. Furthermore, this change was never mentioned in the patch notes, which is a clear indication that it was never “intended.” The fact that you can still change nicknames but only with an extra step further confirms that it is indeed a bug. Kindly escalate this to the correct team responsible and get this bug fixed, rather than ruling it out as intentional and avoiding any responsibility whatsoever. Ruining the game with bugs and removing features nobody requested is not how you move forward, especially ignoring the community that is responsible for helping the game be where it is today. However, if I am wrong, show me where this was mentioned in the patch notes, provide a clear reason as to why it was done, and explain why we still have the ability to do so but with an extra step if your intention was to remove it permanently.

RELATED THREAD:
A similar concern was raised by user Valuetown in the general discussion forum:

“Just another bit of functionality lost for no reason whatsoever. You have to restart the game for your Steam name to update in-game. Can there be a priority to fix this for PC players? Thanks.”
(Credit to Valuetown for originally reporting this issue.)

PLATFORM:
Steam (PC only) – This functionality applies exclusively to the Steam version of the game.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW THE ISSUE OCCURED (9.2.0 & onwards):

  1. Launch Dead by Daylight (version 9.2.0 or later).
  2. While the game is running, change your Steam display name.
  3. Wait to be paired with survs & the killer in the matchmaking lobby.
  4. Observe that the updated nickname is not reflected in the matchmaking lobby or in-game.
  5. If you restart the game however, the nickname is reflected but this isn't how it is supposed to work

Initially or what is expected (Before 9.2.0)

  1. Launch Dead by Daylight (version 9.2.0 or later).
  2. While the game is running, change your Steam display name.
  3. Wait to be paired with survs & the killer in the matchmaking lobby.
  4. The nickname is reflected immediately in the matchmaking lobby and upon further entering the game, the nickname is shown there as well. No restart was needed at all

VIDEO:

Not required as the issue can be clearly reproduced following the steps above.

Would appreciate a member from the senior ranks to oversee this bug report. This is a clear bug that could be easily fixed if you undo whatever was done to cause this in the first place since the functionality still works but requires an extra step.

Reminder as this seems to have been overlooked
