An Alternate Myers Rework

Just a random proposal I'd like to throw out there, I'm under no illusion that reworking Myers again so quickly is realistic right now, but I think the new Myers rework suffers from two core problems, beyond just core strength:

  1. Slaughtering Strike just generally feels eh compared to other dash powers. Dash Killers really thrive off having a power that simply feels good to perform.
  2. Ghostface & Oni stepped on Myers' toes as a power concept, and the rework doesn't really fix that. Both characters felt tailor-made to execute some of Myers' ideas in a better way, and he still kinda feels like he lacks a solid identity between the two of them. Myers is the Evil Ryu of DbD.

So, here's the pitch:

  • Myers' lunge distance bonus is on Stalker Mode, instead of Pursuer Mode.
  • Evil Incarnate is no longer a 3rd mode. It instead applies to both Stalker/Pursuer, Myers can freely switch between them during Evil Incarnate.
  • In both Evil Incarnate modes, all Survivors are Exposed.
  • While enhanced by Evil, Stalker Mode moves at 4.6 m/s. (115%)
  • While enhanced by Evil, Pursuer Mode gains access to Slaughtering Strike. (same name, different effect) Perform a Slaughtering Strike by pressing the Basic Attack button during a Basic Attack recovery, (no matter if it's a successful, missed, or obstructed hit) immediately cancelling it into a Slaughtering Strike.

Details of the new Slaughtering Strike:

  • Slaughtering Strike counts as a Special Attack (so cannot instadown, get extended by Coup De Grace, or etc), and has a much longer recovery on a miss than a Basic Attack, (and perhaps should have a long lunge distance?) but is otherwise identical to a Basic Attack lunge.
  • Successful SS hits can be cancelled into another SS, but they can't be if they are missed. The balance to hit here is that Myers should be able to catch up with a followup SS to double-tap a Survivor, but the Survivor should be able to make that followup SS impossible at many loops. (though remember, Myers can choose to switch back to Stalker Mode to regain his extended lunge one-shot if that'd be better in the situation)
  • SS can still work as a break action against pallets, walls, etc.
  • SS still uses the knife in the overarm stance, so doing multiple SS hits will resemble the opening kill of the original Halloween

This is a very rough concept and is not refined or balanced, eg. I don't know what should happen to stalking's aura reveal under this rework, and I think there should be some kind of speed penalty or etc for swapping stances under this rework so you can't freely juggle the stances' benefits with zero commitment. I'm just getting the broad idea out there, which would hopefully solve both of my problems with Myers:

  1. I can't say how a hypothetical power would feel to use, but animation cancels are a cheat code to reach good gamefeel.
  2. Myers would still be similar to Oni/Ghostface, but I think the stance swapping would distinguish him, especially in chase. (if anything, this rework takes just as much from Wesker, or Leatherface) The rework already put Myers in the direction of being a stance Killer instead of a level-up Killer, I think going the full way works.

…And to be honest, I mostly just want to provide a different idea to "give him a teleport", which seems to be the more popular community sentiment. Thanks for reading!

"Why play Myers when Ghostface and Oni exist".

I'm sorry but Ghostface is awful, especially compared to current Mikey. There's no reason to play Ghostface when Mikey exists. There never was even before his rework in my opinion, but certainly not now.

Michael can't be robbed of his power by looking at him. He has some good anti loop in his kit now. He has good stealth. He has a good insta down, and you have a choice of using the strike or you can go old school with the tuft of hair and use regular exposed. Michael also has a base kit mori/tombstone for dead hook survivors which is a nice little counter to pallet and flashlight saves.

Ghostface is not the killer to compare Mikey to as an example of a better stealth or insta down killer. He's the total opposite.

Oh, to be clear, I don't think Ghostface is even a little bit strong, I was talking more about general power design. I'll quickly edit that point.
