Maybe there is a very easy way to stop tunneling.

Hello everyone,

I was thinking about this tunneling problem everyone is talking about here on the forum and I decide to share my thoughts and a idea that could resolve it or be a base to thinking about how to tackle the problem in more constructive way, not a artificial one. Feel free to share your thoughts!

Desperate Escape:

Initiate after being unhooked. Last for 6 seconds. Give the unhooked increased speed by a large amount. Make the unhooked invisible to the Killer, untraceable and unable to be hit by anything - they would also not be able to body block the Killer. If the unhooked don't move, they are visible. If they don't move for 3 seconds the boon ends sooner. Also if they do any conspicuous action it also ends.

Benefits:

  • No tunneling if you use it well. You would just run away so fast in direction you want without a pursuit.
  • Other survivors can't sacrifice you by unhooking. They are now seen by the killer as sole figures under the hook - they have to take the whole consequences for their actions if they unhook others when the killer is next to them.
  • If someone choose to be healed at the hook, after 3 seconds they also have to take the consequences of that on their back
  • I would give the killers also some boon after every unhook, but I don't want to judge what they really need now, because I just started to play as them more these days and I am not still there to give a opinion.

End word:

I know how it looks, like a 100% way to escape. A 100% way to avoid the Killer and it can seem not fair, but think about it more deeply. When you consider the other remedy here - dozen of boons that make a Survivor a power house just to have a chance to escape and probably in a way have the same hopeful purpose - that they will be save in the end. But this official remedy won't change much in my opinion, if a Killer like a Ghoul want to tunnel a survivor that isn't good enough, he will still choose him and tunnel even if the target have 20 boons, 30 or 50. I feel like without changing the base game mechanics or making a unfair punishment system for the Killers, just adding boons to unhooked players that are still visible and able to be targeted won't resolve the problem and just will make the community more bitter in the end.

I like this idea as a killer main, so long as there are also better hooking incentives than just bloodlust. Mainly, It needs to work so if a mikaela with no hooks unhooks a nancy on first hook, the killer would get more value for going after mikaela than waiting out and searching for nancy. This kind of insurance policy works towards that, but the killer should also want to not tunnel anyway, not have their hand forced.

Also teammates should be able to see a glowing outline of the unhooked survivors footsteps, and then have the unhooked survivor be invisible because that sounds fun.

I don't mind tunneling that much but when the killer proxycamps the hook and tunnels then its bs. lol

You want to stop tunnelling? You have to remove opportunity. Treat it like 2v8, or literally any other game's respawn, where the hook sends the survivor far away and the killer is not given a big blinking indicator saying "TUNNEL HERE". Force the survivor to sit in the void for 30, 45 seconds, whatever, doing shots with Trix before their cage pops up remote from the killer and all survivors, same logic as Pinhead's box spawn. Now you don't need extra protections. Survivors can't weaponize those protections. Survivors can't be farmed straight off the hook. Killers with good awareness can still tunnel but it takes skill or perks to know where to go.

Remove opportunity to tunnel, and you remove the need to protect people from it, as well as any ability to weaponize it.

we also found in 2 v 8 that sending hooked survivors far away didnt prevent tunneling with speed killers such as oni, wraith and wesker as its easy to predict spawn locations. they would zoom across the map to rough spawn location. It helps slow M1 killers not tunnel but these are the killers that often need to tunnel so i dont think its fair to eliminate tunneling as a strat for slow killers that need it but still allow fast speedy killers to tunnel when they often dont need to.

Hyper mobile killers are the issue for tunneling, I don't think any amount of anti tunnel/anti camp will ever fix that

I still think at the end of the day it still provides a lot of proxy-camping advantage to go for the unhooker (which may be a good thing for variety), but I do agree with the general sentiment of: The unhooked player needs to be able to relocate themselves without the Killers knowledge, and this certainly prevents tracking on the unhooked survivor on the onset.

Hyper mobile killers are an issue for tunneling when they have rough knowledge of where the survivor will be. This at least makes the actual location determined by human permutation (that can leverage or forgo environmental stimulus of the Killer/Map/location - the mindgame), instead of an algorithm.

Problem with BHVR's current iteration of anti-tunneling features (with the onus on survivors), is the Killer can still see them.

Maybe there is a very easy way to stop tunneling:

just hide/loop well, if Accidentally knocked down by killer, teammate can save you before get on hooked.

if is on hook. your team need hide well force killer camp and tunnel.

the key is not stop tunneling.

the key is make tunneling useless.

but the way make it useless is wrong now.

need survivor Finding solutions on their own is more rewarding.

if not, may those player is NOT the DBD Audience, the best way to those player is play other game.
