Involuntary DC should not be punished
There really needs to be a way for the game to differentiate between CLICKING DISCONNECT and being in the middle of a chase when the game kicks you. I've had to deal with matchmaking locks 6 times in the last 2 days simply because the game decides it doesn't want me there. It's irritating enough losing my entire kit and missing out on any BP and quest progress, but then having to wait sometimes up to half an hour to play another game and make up the missing progress is absolutely infuriating. And no, it's not just my internet connection. I have consistent 300 Mbps dl, 100 Mbps ul, and the game itself shows me 30-50ms ping when it disconnects me. I have no problems with literally any other game so it definitively has to be DBD. If you can't fix your servers at least fix players getting punished for things that are fully out of our control.

I believe they said the issue becomes how open to abuse it could be. They cannot differentiate between the server failing, someone lagging out, or a player pulling a cord. So it treats it all the same and applies the penalty accordingly.

They specifically are going through the various reasons why players go next, and attempting to make changes with that in mind. Admittedly some of those changes haven't worked out at all lately.

I understand needing to keep some penalty, as frustrating as it is losing kit and BP for a disconnect does seem like a reasonable compromise, but the matchmaking lock is just too much. Why would I play a game that keeps incentivizing me to leave and do something else?

Play a match, get 3 quests done, get disconnected at the very end, lose all progress and all rewards, can't play for an hour. Someone care to tell me why this is a controversial opinion.

if youre disconnecting often enough to be incurring hour long matchmaking penalties your internet connection is not stable enough to be commiting to full matches of competitive games
it's unfair to the other four players for you to queue when you are ruining the game with such regularity

The only way you have a one hour timer is because you disconnected more than once. That's why none of us sympathize with you.
Either get better connection, stop DCing on a whim, or simply stop playing. You don't deserve less punishment than what exists right now.

I can play literally any other game without issue though, it's quite literally only DBD that gives me this issue, I get maybe not everyone is having this issue but when my connection is stable enough to do literally anything else, including hosting servers for other games without issue, at a certain point it's not my fault.

Forgive me for wanting to play a game I enjoy, I'll happily give it up if BHVR wants to give me back my $40 I've sunk into this game

and not even to mention every game I DC from has at least one other person who disconnects when I check match history. This is not a me problem.

I think the problem with that is the game can't detect whether a DC is purposeful or accidental. Plus, people would just start pulling the plug on their routers to make the match never happen

Worth remembering that BHVR's netcode is terrible. Most online games are resilient enough to let you reconnect through even slight hiccups, but DBD will DC you for things that even fighting game netcode shrugs off and removes you from being able to rejoin the game at all, let alone forces you to (which would prevent the entire Go Next schtick).
I also randomly started getting DCed around the Alan Wake patch and it went on for over a year without any explanation or recourse. And many times, it wasn't even my router. I was in games with streamers where I got DCed and then like 15 seconds later, they did too. BHVR's netcode and servers are too unreliable and unresilient for them to be handing out punishments.

if the killer is hard tunneling then going next would be reasonably fast as it is… especially if your the one they are tunneling. To DC penalty free because the killer does something you dont like isnt good for that game. If that were the case people would DC if the killer tunneled, downed them once, bad map, killer they dont like, team mate cleansed the wrong totem, team mate failed skill check on a gen your on and the killer chased you…. they should absolutely have a pen for DCing to stop this from happening more than it already does. an hour ago i had 2 team mates DC because the killer was the hag… reasonable? i dont think so.

That's kinda what I'm saying though, who's to say they disconnected because it was Hag, or just got forced out of the match. Again I get having a penalty to discourage DC, that's totally reasonable and every game has it, I just think the matchmaking locks are way too punishing when this is a regular occurrence for many people.

Quite frankly, if they could somehow implement a "join back" button, it would fix many issues.
People who didn't quit on purpose would, of course, frantically use the "join back" button and would reconnect to the game (and take over the bot who took over).
People who ragequit/unplugged their internet on purpose wouldn't use the "join back" button (what would be the point, they DCed on purpose in the first place) and would get hit with a DC penalty when they next try to queue up.
There would still be a few unlucky people that get hit with a power outage or something that literally makes them unable to play at all, but every instances of simply lag spikes/server issues that kick someone would be fixed since the people who didn't mean to quit (and who want to join back) will be able to join back and avoid an undeserved DC penalty which now takes 20 matches to go away, making subsequent tech issues even more annoying (I haven't yet encountered this, luckily, but a friend of mine once got hit with a 50 sec penalty due to a crash followed by what he thinks is a hacker who overloaded the server just before he died, he didn't play for a week afterward and I can't really blame him).

Honestly yes, exactly this would fix the problem. It's not like I want to be leaving matches early, if I could join back I wouldn't even mind losing a minute to whatever the bot does as long as I get to at least finish out my match and get credit for what I've done. Or literally even just let finished quests stay finished, because that's genuinely what's the most upsetting to me. It's just so discouraging to sink so much time into playing matches and have nothing to show for it and it's really just a shame because I do love this game so much.

I have crummy spectrum internet and hardly ever get kicked lol.

You want BHVR to have some magic wand to be able to differentiate between what causes a disconnect, but literally most multi-billion dollar and/or triple A game companies don't even have a solution for such a thing, and it's simple; it would be abused by players in some form or another.

steam has been a bit weird lately I've noticed, is that the platform you play on? I think Steam has been targeted by some cyber attacks lately but I haven't been keeping up with them.
