Linux - Can't Join Friends or Use Steam Overlay

SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE: I am trying to join my friends but nothing happens even when either of us accept an invite. Another detail I noticed is that I am unable to open the Steam Overlay, so I imagine this is related.
I did try using different versions of Proton but nothing seemed to work there, unfortunately.
PLATFORM: PC, Linux, Steam.PLAYER LOGS:
- Player logs are required from PC players only.
