Put Fresh-Hook Bloodlust On Unrelenting
This is something of a companion piece to this post where I suggested putting a feature from previous PTBs on a universal perk for the survivor side. There's room for that on the killer side too though, and this is that suggestion- though it's a little more in depth than the last one.
Basically, Unrelenting kinda sucks, so giving it a new effect is already a good idea. While it could keep its current effect or it could not, what I'd suggest is the new effect read like this:
- Hooking a survivor other than the last one hooked immediately grants Bloodlust 3. This bonus ends when entering a chase or performing any other action that cancels Bloodlust.
Simple, obvious effect. The basekit Bloodlust was far from overpowered on that PTB, in fact it was underpowered, so giving the stronger version to a perk should be fine too.
The reason this change is more complex is because there are two other perks that would need to be evaluated if this change were made: Furtive Chase and Beast of Prey.
BoP is obvious so I'll just say it, nerf the duration down to 20-25 seconds. This is technically a nerf, but the new combo would be so much stronger than current BoP (which is already excessively meh) that it breaks out to be better overall.
Furtive Chase though, we have two options, both worth considering.
- 1: Use the framework of PTB Furtive Chase, but buff it. Something like it starting with a 10% reduction, or gaining more per token, something of that ilk. It was a cool effect and if you can still get the same effect as current FC from running Unrelenting + BoP, that's not a huge downgrade.
However, since it changes from running one perk to having to run two perks (unlike the PTB where it was running one perk to running a different, still singular perk to get the same effect), there are reasons to be more wary. - 2: Have any form of Haste disable the Bloodlust you get from Unrelenting specifically, giving the perks anti-synergy when the Obsession is hooked but allowing Unrelenting to still function when hooking anyone else should you run the two perks together.
I favour this solution, myself; the combo of Unrelenting + Beast of Prey exists as the more expensive but more consistent version, and Furtive Chase exists as the cheaper alternative that also synergises better with other Obsession perks like Nemesis or Friends Til The End.
Before I cap off here, I want to mention that part of my reason for suggesting this change is so that the design space of "when you have Bloodlust, gain X effect" is more open than it currently is.
With Bloodlust only activating in long chases now, Beast of Prey is so mediocre people broadly don't run it; it has some niche application as a perk for being able to break chase more cleanly if that chase goes on too long, but that just isn't very powerful or appealing, meaning other perks working this way also won't be appealing.
With another way of activating Bloodlust, even if it's a perk, there's more opportunity to design perks around the central premise of "You CAN wait to activate this in chase, but you can also use this universal perk everyone has access to instead if you want more control over the effect", which I think is really neat and worth exploring.
