Wow, so much respect for this mic drop Pulsar! I'm speechless, but I have to say part of me is not surprised and had a sneaking suspicion of such a two-tier system existing. If you're reading this as someone who's been moderated over something silly, an honest mistake, or even just not knowing any better, and where a verbal warning or simply reaching out 1-on-1 like a tap on the shoulder and saying hey watch it would have been a reasonable response to it, then you're probably shaking your head right now too along with me.

I got a whole vacation for calling the zanshin rework lazy and half baked. i know I messed up using the naughty L word, I got too heated and emotional. I had just hoped I got half the leniency you did.
my personality demands I be banned or killed no matter where I go, I've accepted that. but I really like using the word half baked. what I'm saying is, enforcement does kinda feel like it depends who you get at what time of day.

wonder if anyone remembers prometheus aka mr tombstone from like a year or 2 ago lol 😉

Damn.
Well brother, if you do end up getting a ban it was nice discussing.
6 -
It was indeed.

Do you have a Discord community available for this?

Nah, my free-using self has no such abilities. But I'll happily join one.

Gonna write a whole song about this moment to memorialize it! Unity!!

We'll witness the great purge of the forums tomorrow (probably).

I was going to write some long winded thing here but considering this thread's probably gonna be gone by tomorrow, I'm just gonna sum up how I feel with one word.
Disappointed.

I guess I might as well set myself on fire too. It's been fun guys.
For all the Pig enthusiasts, a boop 👉️🐖.
@Mandy was my favourite community manager. She's the only person on staff that's prepared to tell the community to stop being babies sometimes. I always appreciated that.
@HexHuntressThighs, you got whacked ages ago. But wherever you are, I hope you finally got that Shiny Pin as basekit.
All right. Shield your eyes.
Apologies for the smut. I had to search Google for this. I can't wait for the ads…

I'll shoot you the link

Beware, this is a long post, but I have to get this off my chest since all the big names are throwing themselves to the wolves as well.
When this thread came started, it originally felt like that one Homelander meme where someone has the same opinion but words it so atrociously that you don't want to agree with it. So I said nothing, expecting things to be brushed over and everyone pretends it didn't happen. But it's ballooned so far out of control that if they try to cover it up, it'll just wind up feeling like the Discord backlash again. Especially with the bombshell that Pulsar just dropped. So I've decided to throw everything out as well.
I'd wager that no one here will recognize my name, since I've always kind of kept to myself (and I've not been nearly as active for the past year), but I'm probably one of the last proper old guard on this forum (I'm pretty sure I've been here longer than Clown has existed). I have seen everything. I remember having distinct Killer and Survivor subsections on top of our general section. I remember the rise and fall of Sluzzy. I remember when we had downvotes, upvotes, and "Awesomes". I remember seeing the primary moderator of the DBD wiki getting banned. I remember when people who broke the rules were "thrown in jail". I remember Orion getting his crown, and I remember when he left and didn't look back when the NFT debacle happened. I have seen so many icons on the forums come and go. I remember a time when you could actually see how many views a thread had. I remember the massive data leak that caused most of the forum members to have to change their passwords in order to log on (I was one of them). I remember when we were on an entirely different service than an official bhvr site. I "left" the forum for a year for mental health issues that were reaching their breaking point, but I was always watching from the "logged-off" void. I've always done my best to follow the rules laid out for us.
I got hit with a "not civil nor constructive" warning last month for a mildly sarcastic post I made. I'll readily admit, I may have gone too far with it (even though I've seen so much worse that was never moderated), but it was a direct result of my frustration with the state of the forums, and the post I was responding to was the straw that broke me. This was my first warning, and I've been paranoid of making any post ever since, because I have no way of knowing which side of the banhammer I'll wind up falling on for being my natural sarcastic self (and yes, it was the mod in question).
Moderation has always been an issue on this forum. The weekends are especially bad (case in point, how this post started as a personal attack and the fact that we have actual gore being posted right now), but it's always felt cherry picked what does and doesn't count against forum rules. We have entire accounts dedicated to bad faith arguments that straight up attack the devs directly (most of them that come to mind are Survivor sided, with the only Killer one I can think of being danielmaster, but I'm sure there are others) that have been going on for YEARS, but it's the people who call them out that get the banhammer.
I've seen several posts get sent to the
gulagFeedback and Suggestions tab that no one ever goes to. In fact, I have PERSONAL experience with this, a post I made regarding how the height assignments for each Killer make no sense. I put literal HOURS into getting my post right (while dealing with extreme social anxiety that got worse while I was away from the forum), only for it to get banished where basically no one would see it. Several months later, @HexHuntressThighs commented on the post, talking about how they wanted to use it for a video they were working on. The next day, before I could even offer to assist them with anything they needed, their post was removed and my thread was locked. In fact, here it is so you can see for yourself.Needless to say, putting all of that effort into this thread for it just get banished was BEYOND disheartening. I can't remember which mod it was (I think it was Mandy), but I definitely remember the sick feeling I got when I saw it happen.
Funnily enough, said thread was probably the only time the actual reason for this entire thing and I "interacted". I don't have much personal experience with Undedd, but I safely say they were one of the best people on this forum. For them to get so unceremoniously deleted (with even their entire post history being forever lost to us behind the banwall) is BEYOND disappointing. And the team will probably try shoving this entire post under the rug, especially with all of the evidence that has been shown that they're not doing their job properly.
They're looking for new moderators, which is desperately needed especially for the weekends, but something needs to change regarding the rules that they're moderating. What counts as civil? Why are posts that fuel senseless tribalism considered constructive, but posts that call them out on it aren't? Why do some people get deleted with seemingly no warning when others, as Pulsar's shown, are clearly shown blatant favoritism?
I can predict what's going to happen pretty easily. Badger's getting banned and this post deleted. We'll probably lose Nun, Pulsar, tes, runningguy, Nazzzak, and a few others. I myself am probably going down for this, but I honestly don't know if I care anymore. The forums isn't the same place it was when I started here. It used to be fairly fun and friendly. Now, it's just an echo chamber for whichever side is feeling oppressed that PTB/patch. After they're done, they'll try to pretend like nothing every happened. Which is why I decided to spend today documenting the ENTIRE thread. It's currently sitting at 65 pages (well, the document is pageless, so my screenshots are full-sized and I would probably shrink it for a proper document, but you get the point) up to this post. I won't let them bury this. If my sacrifice means the forums are better for others in the future, then so be it.
Anyway, that's all I have to say about this. Even if I do get taken out back (or honestly, even if I'm still here tomorrow), I'll probably still be watching from the logged-off plane. It's been a fun ride, but all good things must come to an end.

Well maybe some from the purge will refuge there
If ya don't mind :)

Bro with the private profile. Message me lol

The Forum will be basically dead if they ban everyone here.

Its crazy to think that probably a good majority of us could be gone from the forum soon. I know all of the chill guys around dont deserve that for just putting down their reasonable opinions on this post. But as they say part of the ship part of the crew if you all go i'll probably go too even if i dont get banned. If we are all gone by monday it was nice hanging out with yall even though i've only been here since August.
4 -
To be fair, some of us are not that active anymore. The game has lost a lot of appeal over the last year. At least for me.
I love(d) to discuss issues with all you guys over the last few years, but I don't feel like the forums are a good place for discussions anymore. Supportive people get shut down for the weirdest reasons, good ideas get downvoted into oblivion and prominent issues get ignored. Feedback often feels like it goes nowhere.

Yeah it sucks to hear about how strict the rules are and how many we have lost to obscene reasons. There really needs to be a need to do better and let punishments degrade or not be hitting people for everything. Theres a reason im very careful now. I dont wanna be another. I have had so many nice convos with other forum members itd suck to leave.

You know what, deal me in too.

Still have the photo I had c3tooth make of billy pulling out pig when they nerfed pig after billys rework. Its a nice keepsake.

Loved that one. I miss their input…

Well if this is it its nice meeting some of these people over the years even those I didnt agree with at some moment. But most I do so lol. May we all cross paths again.

I think alot of the time it comes down to the moderator's discretion and interpretation. Many years back, I moderated for an (at the time) popular gaming company. I won't name them because I don't want to potentially dox myself. I had fellow moderators issuing warnings and bans on things that I most certainly would not have issued warnings and bans for. There was one moderator I actually ended up becoming great friends with after a time, but she and I would butt heads often initially because she had no chill when it came to bans.
In the pinned moderator post, they mentioned wanting mods to help drive discussion. I'd argue that not banning long-time and frequent contributors would probably be the best way to drive discussion. I feel like unless someone is using slurs or threatening to harm another person (and of course goreposting etc), or is a new account clearly started just to troll, then bans should be a very last resort.

Its been an honor and a privilege terrorizing the forum with you guys and gals through the years.
See you on the other side…

unfortunately i think the forums have significantly lost their quality over the year. i attempted to combat this through positivity posts and even requested to be a volunteer mod privately at one point because of how worse the forums were becoming. i was ultimately declined due to, at the time, forum moderators being a paid role that required you to be employed by BHVR, rather than a volunteer role that i explicitly asked for. i hated to see how the forums have regressed over the years that i've been here.
it disheartens me to hear that community members that have been here for the longest time are seemingly being purged. i keep seeing more and more names show up as "unknown", who's posts i recognized. i'm not sure what's going on, but i myself am very unhappy with the way things are going and the forums don't really feel like they're a place where you can communicate now. it doesn't help that the moderation continues to be the way it is on other platforms like discord as well. i can't even join the server to try and find engaging conversations because i was immediately banned by an overzealous moderator not even 5 minutes after i joined the server.
between the bad faith and aggressive posts from users, to the mishandling of users and situations by moderators, i feel like this warrants a major discussion and a proper restoration. otherwise, there's really no point in having community platforms to begin with. all of this discourages user engagement. i actually did notice a dip in user activity quite a bit ago, which is speaking volumes in how uncomfortable people may feel with trying to promote discussion with others.
i guess this thread is my opportunity to formally complain. i originally planned to personally message a community manager about this, but i think a group gathering makes more sense given this is a long term issue.
