Crash should not cause matchmaking lock
This game doesn't crash a lot, but it sucks when it does. Doubly so when you get a 5 minute penalty.

you dont get 5min lock on the first crash. for that to happen you must have either crashed multiple times or you DC in previous matches. it gives a grace of 2 free DC every 20 matches. go 20 matches without DCing or no crashes and it gets reset so you have another 2 free DC. if you got the 5min lock you must have DC, game crashed or internet cut out atleast 2 times in the previous 20 matches.

Probably doesn't matter, but no previous disconnects intentional or otherwise

While I do agree that it's frustrating when you get a penalty for something beyond your control, but I don't think there should be any exceptions like this made for it. Disconnect penalties need to be a "justice is blind not heartless" style, because making exceptions = people exploit those exceptions to dodge the penalty = the system is no longer doing its job properly. We've seen this before.

Crashes feel awful, I get it. But a baseline DC penalty is there to protect the other four people in the trial. When one player disappears, the match turns into three humans plus a bot, and that drags the experience for both sides. It’s fair that the system nudges everyone to keep their session stable before queuing.
From what we’ve seen, the five-minute lock doesn’t hit on a single crash; it kicks in after repeat exits within a recent window. That’s a reasonable buffer.
If you’re crashing, it’s usually fixable. Update GPU drivers, verify game files, turn off unstable overclocks/XMP, check RAM with MemTest, kill overlays and recording hooks, and keep background apps light.
I had repeat DBD crashes in the past that disappeared once I fixed a RAM stability issue.0 -
As someone who somehow gets hit with Server Disconnects quite often, yes, they do they need to have some type of coding in the game to prevent the DC penalty. My game rarely crashes, it's ALWAYS a server disconnect for me. It's not my internet I can promise you that. Back in September 2024 I got hit with 9 server disconnects in a matter of 5 days resulting in a 60 minute penalty and I had to stop playing the game for a week to try to help reset my DC penalty. It helped, and I will say the server DC doesn't happen AS often anymore, but it still happens. Last week I dealt with it 4 times but I played enough games in between to where I only had two 5 minute penalties. But it's SO frustrating especially if I'm playing with friends and they have to wait out the timer with me. I have reported this many times and support has tried to walk me through anything that could be causing it on my end but there's nothing.

Just to note that "Server not responding" message in this game does not mean server problem but that your game did not get answer from the game server and that does not mean server crashed. If you get penalty of it its not a server problem but somewhere between you and the server connection went bad. If server crashes you will never get penalty. They really should make it state connection loss as people keep reading it as the server having problems when its really connection failing.

If you made a system where "crashes" dont cause matchmaking bans, then instead of pulling the plug people will just fake a way to make a crash so they can quit any dbd match they please.
