Trapper Rework – Improving Tempo While Preserving His Identity

The Trapper is one of the most iconic killers in Dead by Daylight, but in the current state of the game he feels heavily punished by the overall speed and generator pressure. His reliance on long setup time often results in losing momentum before meaningful pressure can begin.

Core Problem

  • Heavy early-game setup
  • Low chase pressure
  • Traps are often disabled too easily with minimal risk
  • Survivors can safely remove traps without meaningful consequence

Proposed Rework Ideas

1) Trap Disarming Through Skill Checks

Instead of survivors being able to disable traps instantly:

  • Disarming a trap triggers three difficult skill checks
  • Failing a skill check:
    • Either snaps the survivor into the trap
    • Or causes damage / Deep Wound (numbers can be tuned)

This would make interacting with traps a high-risk decision, restoring tension and fear around Trapper’s power.

Optional synergy idea:
A Trapper-specific perk or base-kit interaction that slightly increases the difficulty or punishment of failed skill checks.

2) Window Traps (Limited & Controlled)

Allow Trapper to place rope-style traps on vault windows.

  • If a survivor vaults a trapped window:
    • They are caught mid-vault
    • Suspended briefly upside down
    • Can free themselves or be rescued by another survivor

Balance restrictions:

  • Trapper can trap only 2 windows at a time
  • If a window trap is broken, it can be re-placed — but still capped at 2
  • To compensate for stronger control:
    • Trapper spawns with only 5 traps total on the map

Design Philosophy

The goal isn’t to turn Trapper into a high-mobility killer, but to:

  • Reduce how punishing his setup phase is
  • Add meaningful risk to counterplay
  • Give him stronger area denial and mid-game presence
  • Preserve his identity as a strategic, territorial killer

Closing Thought
Trapper defined early Dead by Daylight, and these changes aim to modernize his gameplay without losing what made him unique. All numbers and effects are adjustable — the core idea is to make his power feel impactful again in today’s faster-paced environment.
