Why is the Spirit so highly rated?
A lot of people consider Spirit the 3rd best killer, but I don't see what's so great about her. Is it her ability to move between generators fast? I could definitely understand that, but that doesn't seem like enough. Using her power to catch up to a survivor can backfire if the survivor knows what they're doing. They just have to run backwards or walk in a different direction and then she'll have to reorient herself before starting a chase. There's the mindgame factor, but that doesn't actually seem to be in either party's favor as much as it is up to luck. Good survivors can tell when the Spirit has phased and will position themselves accordingly so it's a random chance whether the spirit will pop out in a good or bad position.

Spirit is a good killer because her power counters loops (assuming said killer knows how to win mind games).
If you have a certain skill with killer, then Spirit is very potent because you'll be able to cut survivors off.
Is it 100% consistent? No, but you'll probably win most of your chases.Also, I'm not sure I would say Spirit is the third best killer. Billy and Huntress are both very strong killers. You don't even need add ons to do well with these two. Hag is also very good if played properly.
I don't play a lot of Spirit, but this is my basic understanding.

I wouldn't focus on "tier lists" or what are people saying about this or that killer. Personally, I find a lot of killers viable at R1, without establishing a hierarchy between them. It's just a matter of willing to put some hours into them. Map layouts play a bigger role in the outcome of a match, IMO.
I think of DBD as boxing, as in styles make fights. Here, playstyles make matches. Some people happen to be good with Spirit, mindgames and all. But there are people wrecking the place as Freddy, Wraith and LF, too.

I play most of them because I'm absolute garbage at some, but in general I played all the others at red ranks and I had a lot of success with all of them, learning a few tricks on the way. My main Wraith is not as weak as people say he is

Because of her movement speed, it's not too difficult to tell if she's stopped chasing you without putting yourself at risk in a non visible wall loops. And out in the open, it's straight out obvious. You can easily avoid phase baits by just not going near the husk. And against an actual phase, how does it become anything more than a game of chance to close in a survivor that could have gone in any direction?

Loops are non existent with her. If a spirit is getting looped by the survivor then the person playing spirit just isn't very good.
With having good hearing and being able to predict survivor moves you can outplay them at all pallets and jukes. You can tell if they are trying to juke backwards as the scratch marks end and you can usually hear them, especially if they are injured. Not to mention you can also feel a "bump" if you run into them. You also get a ton of hits by fake phasing. You just stand there at the pallet and the survivor will jump across into you or just slowly walk away, which also leaves them in the open and away from the pallet.
She also has high map pressure with the speed of her phasing.
She very rightly goes into the 3rd rank spot in my opinion. When people think she isn't that great at these things it's usually just because they havn't practiced her enough to do well. It's all about the hearing with her, you need good headphones and to listen carefully. The scratch marks are only getting you in the general area, they aren't the majority of what you are using to land hits.

Its really based on your own playstyle tbh. They say Billy is a really high tier killer and I cant do much of anything with him at r1. But when I play as Hag or Huntress(low rank killers) i seem to do really well because their specific play styles work well for me.1

Despite her movement speed, she counters looping and can mindgame survivors. I can’t tell you how many times I seen a survivor healing by a pallet in the corner of my eye with Nurses Calling, I stop and look the opposite direction, phase over to them and down them. She can easily down survivors or grab survivors if they are within her terror radius and they don’t pay attention.
She is highly regarded as the third best killer because she has map pressure and a viable power that counters looping if you cam predict survivors movements. She’s not quite as good as Nurse but she’s certainly on par with Billy. It is a rare occurence if I get under a 3K with Spirit at Rank 1. If you learn how to play her you won’t regret it.

@OP The devs always give survivors what they ask for. They adapt very slowly, if at all, because they never had to. They still don't know how to deal with the Nurse and are constantly screaming fot nerfs, and it took them almost two years to adapt to the Huntress. That's why a killer playing the Spirit can do so good against average survivors. They run in predictable patterns and utterly fail to exploit her obvious and glaring weaknesses: they don't stop running even when it's obvious that she's phasing, and they don't even try to avoid grass patches. Because they expect their brainfart playstyle to work on every killer. But when you face good survivors as the Spirit, you can definitely tell the difference: they won't fail for any kind of "mind game", and phasing means losing them and having to search for them all over again.
Maybe in a couple of years more or less the whole playerbase will agree about the Spirit being meme tier, but for now you'll have to see clueless noobs writing "She's top tier!11!! She cancels loops!11!!!!" and so on.0 -
I really don't think that spirit is a good killer. When you play against good players make spirit #########. she is so easy to counter and deal with + she is very slow and not meant for running around, you are forced to keep using phase which makes you waste time and they can counter you easily. I really wish they give her a better speed.

Who's best at controlling everything survivors do? Undoubtedly Hag.
All of the top tier killers are amazing at something and better then every other kill. You're right, its hard to compare them. But I just rate them from my experiences.

Because she's one of the best designed killers in the game while having the same skill ceiling as Nurse. If you think her power is based on luck, then you either don't understand survivors at all or undervalue sound. She's at least in the top 5.

IMO most people who aren't as good with her rate her low. Takes practice learning jukes and how to track someone you can't see. However, once mastered, chases last maybe 20 seconds if you mess up a phase chase. She is known as the (2nd) hardest killer to play.0

"Mastering" a killer takes way more than playing them a bit. I have close to 1k hours on billy and mained him since release before the arrowkey exploit. I probably really mastered him or close to, but i would never say so, since he has a really high skillcap and you can always improve on accuracy and skillshots and cutting loops.
Are you as good as zubat with billy? If not, you havent mastered him. And there are better billys than zubat. Just like any true nurse, hag, spirit or huntress main would laugh, when you consider them mastered. It takes a lot of time, since their skillcap is very deep. ~1k hours to master one. I dont think ANYONE has mastered every killer. Im trying to do it, 2,6k hours in, but its impossible even for toptier killers.Ranting aside, i think you really underestimate their skillcaps and what they can do.

Heavy mind-game killer with good mobility. Ever since they changed her audio cues, she's incredibly easy to gank people with. It's not really the buff I wanted to see on her, but all well.
She's the more binary version of Hag, being able to use her mobility at will, but being unable to shut out locations as quickly or effectively. However, The Spirit's addons can be insane depending on the map and combination you get accustomed to.
Also, she's incredible for pallet baiting by just stopping and holding still. lmao Very fun killer.

She's really good when played well and if you know what you're doing you can mix up fake phasing and phasing with Prayer Beads. If not running those then M&A is really nice for jump scares combined with movement speed and extended phasing.
I main her and I actually hate facing her more than any other killer besides 3 blink Nurse and Iri Doctor on Gideons. Her biggest strength is her mind games and how fast she can move across the map and if you run MYC on her with ms addons she's a beast.
