will switch 2 get the 9.6.1 update today or will it be a case of us not being able to crossplay the other our friends who are on different consoles while 2v8 is on?

Switch won't be getting the 9.6.2 update today, but it will follow at a later date. When that arrives on Switch, you can also expect the content of 9.6.1 to be rolled into it.
