Controller Aim Assist and Crosshairs

If there are two things that Dead By Daylight still needs, it's Aim Assist for Controllers and Crosshairs. Now, the first one is pretty controversial, but as someone who has played FPS games on both PC and console, I can clear the air there. The second one has been talked about for eons.

No, Aim Assist Isn't Hacks

It's not nearly as strong as you think it is. That Modern Warfare 2 aim-to-snap stuff does NOT happen in FPS games, nor does it track the target through walls. If anything, it will weakly follow them. You still need to put in the aiming, and Aim Assist can't predict any dodges that the enemy might do. Aim Assist, previously, just made shooters feel good to play and not clunky. Nowadays, with cross-play and whatnot, it also does double duties at leveling the playing field because Keyboard and Mouse allows you to aim finer, which you cannot do on controller, hence, Aim Assist.

The reason I want Aim Assist in DBD so badly is because of the All-Kill Comeback Chapter. Friends of mine were discussing it in a Discord and, well, I didn't have any input. Not because I didn't play Trickster, I did, but because he felt the exact same… because I'm on controller. He feels horrible to play.
To give an example of how it's like to play DBD on controller:
Imagine you're playing the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Enemies in that game are quite nimble, and some can be a bit jittery too. Now, sounds fine and dandy, but one small hiccup: you're still on tank controls.

I would LOVE to play Killers like Deathslinger and Huntress, but I can't because they just feel flat-out terrible. I know it's not a skill issue either, because I can play Cyberpunk and throw Knives and Axes into skulls just fine, and even breach top of the leaderboard in Battlefield 6 games of Conquest and Escalation.
Aim Assist is there to make an FPS game not feel awful to play. It even comes with settings to adjust how strong or weak you want it to be (no, the higher strength ones don't give you hacks, they might end up hurting you since it's harder to adjust your aim).

It's 2026, Give Us Crosshairs Already

Ya know what every modern game has? Crosshairs! Every single one of them! Sometimes, they're not always on, sometimes, they're always on! Sometimes they're faint, sometimes they're opaque, but they all have one thing in common: they do their job and they do it well!

Destiny 2 has a crosshair! Outlast Trials has a crosshair! Chivalry 2 has a crosshair, and it's mainly just melee weapons! Phasmophobia has a crosshair, and you don't even fight in that game! Date Everything, a DATING SIMULATOR, has a crosshair! But Dead By Daylight, a 10 year old game, does not, in fact, have a crosshair.

Doesn't even need to be fancy, just a dot in the middle of the screen. You can be fancy when you feel like it, but just a simple dot would go a LONG way. And no, those weird crosshair Add-Ons aren't counting. Actual, permanent ones, please and thank you.

I exclusively play ranged killers on controller and aim assist is genuinely going to ruin you ability to aim. Crosshairs would be a nice to toggle on

I don't want aim assist on controller.

I do want crosshairs though, and it should be customizable in shape, color, and positioning so it could be adapted per killer and for flashlights, which aren't centered.

Naw there's gonna be 3 outcomes of auto aim being added

    1. Too weak - no noticeable effect.

    2. Too strong - Vecnas, huntresses, jasons, any killer who has a ranged power is now a power house thanks to the computer aiming for them.

    3. Too weak AND makes killers worse - That lined up shot you made? Auto aim decided naw you meant to shoot it dead center and so the survivor dodged and we just effectively killed prediction based ranged attacks.

None of the above 3 sound good and what is the likelihood auto aim lands in 1 of those 3 camps vs being "just right".

Edit: This also opens up the can of worms that is XIM and other PC "im on controller trust me bro" programs that exist solely to reap the maximum reward of controller hand holding while also playing on PC.

Forgot number 4. Alot of aim assist systems causes you to slow down when you pass over a target. Imagine sweeping left and right, just to slow down when you pass over a bush in the distance.

I think a toggle for controller wouldn't be so bad, it being tested at the very least couldn't be so bad.

Having it is not gonna hurt those of us who won't use it surely?

I agree with the crosshair part. Not really convinced that aim assist belongs in DBD, but a simple optional crosshair absolutely should exist by now.

For ranged killers knowing the exact center of your screen is basic QoL. ppl can already get crosshairs through monitor settings or overlays anyway, so not having an in-game option just makes it less convenient for no real reason.

Another QoL thing I’d love to see is being able to open Match Details / teammate perks without being forced to stand still / in idle. In a game where time is everything, checking your team’s loadouts should not lock your character in place. Plenty of games let you open scoreboards or information panels while still moving or doing basic actions. DBD should too.

We don't need aim assist, we need dead zone sliders. Insane that DBD still doesn't have that option ten years later.

Yeah jasons spear has crosshair on tip ofthe spear or near it. Majority has it in the middle of the screen but it would help still evon on some dash killers like wesker, dracula.
