Suggestions for the future PTBs

Because the official forums are going away, there should be discussions regarding the best ways to gather PTB feedback on Discord and Reddit.

Discord has a thing called threads, and the PTB Discord channel should tell everyone that separate feedback should be in separate threads. There should also be a stricter recommendation that people look at the existing threads to see if an existing thread exists. These forums have a long standing issue with people purposely opening a new thread for the same topic, so they can flood the front page with the same topic.

Other Discords I am in also have a rule that the feedback channels are for feedback only, and people aren’t allowed to have discussions with other members in the feedback channel. It is ok if a mod posts in a feedback thread, and people respond to the mod, but players should not be flooding the feedback channel with their complaints about other players’ feedback. The feedback channels are supposed to encourage players to give feedback, and it’s difficult to encourage that when people get jumped on with complaints when they are trying to give their feedback.

For Reddit, it already naturally creates sub threads, and people seem good with handling that. It also has the benefit that so many people are on that platform, that it’s not possible for a small group of people to intentionally try to derail every topic they disagree with (which sometimes happens on these forums, which is why we sometimes have periods of time where a very large number of threads get closed because players are arguing with each other).

I know change can sometimes feel scary, but I think Discord and Reddit are better platforms for feedback because they have so many more people than these forums. It is much easier on Discord and Reddit to see prevailing trends of popular feedback. Discord has the added benefit that it has a massive amount of feedback hidden in the discussion channels, and an AI bot could be created to sift through the discussions to extract popular feedback trends. An AI bot could also be created to sift through all the questions people ask in the Discord channels, to figure out if the game needs better tutorials or explanations for certain game mechanics or situations. Even though I’ve seen complaints that the discord channels are overwhelming and have too many people talking at the same time, I think that is a good thing, and AI can be used to summarize the Discord conversations.
