Dead by daylight discord
With the fourms closing in around 2 weeks. we where told changes where going to be coming to the discord to try to support longform content, along with a email about the fourm member role on discord.
I am already a member of the discord yet it does not seem to be any changes to try to cater to more longform content.
Is there a ETA on it? Before or after the fourms close? Or has that idea been scrapped.
Thanks.

I checked out the DbD Discord and it’s an absolute s***show. It’s just random 3-5 word phrases that have no apparent connection to anything else in the “discussion.” I can’t believe that BHVR considers this to be preferable to the forum format, but it’s BHVR so I guess I can believe it.

Honestly, it's pretty expensive to keep paying for a CMS platform, like this forum. At this point, discord may be the best bet. The only issue is it's a constant stream of random chatter. It's very conveluted and doesn't feel like we can get a meaningful thought out. The best bet is to either find an open-source CMS like drupal (PHP) or build something internally. One of those can be pricey depending on the amount of experience (if there are DevOps/Fullstack Devs) there is for PHP.
There could be better platforms out there, but who knows. I'm sure there has to be something better than discord.

Discord will never be as good as a traditional forum for long term discussions, no matter how hard they try.

Idea has definitely not been scrapped…we're in the middle of setting up all the different channels that we will require in the forum section of the Discord, they will open before the forum here fully closes. Likely during the next week. You will receive an email from the forums at the address that you used to register here, with details of how to get the forum tag on the Discord at the same time.
Email will likely be sent on Friday or very early next week.

Having a high number of people to show off while also allowing for zero substance seems pretty on-brand for a company that's about to delete a decade of criticism. Even if there is a long form section it'll probably be dumbed up by idiots.

correct me if im wrong, but none of the discord discussions will show via google searches right?
only the steam discussions and reddit, and the steam forums are….well people do post there but the quality fo whats posted is beyond abysmal and reddit is mostly just memes and nonsense, all of which pushes into obscurity any kind of actual feedback or discussion.
if the forum is too expensive for behavior to be able to keep running, then maybe they are in much more dire straights than we are aware of.

I wouldn't think so. Discord is just a big group chat. And much like Steam and Reddit, isn't visible without an account, which is bs.
I don't think this has anything to do with cost. I think the visual rework is going to be like dbd2 and they want a fresh start. Deleting nearly a decade of mostly criticism (cause let's be real, people don't come here to compliment the game) is a logical bit of self promotion.

you do not need an account for steam or reddit to view it just to clarify, but to engage with it yes.
but thats the case here too so i wouldnt really weigh that aspect much.

If you're on the mobile version reddit stops you after a few seconds:
The difference is not everyone wants to be part of these big machines. This was a dedicated place. I haven't made a reddit account in all these years, I'm not going to do it to look at some stupid memes. Consoles players shouldn't have to make steam accounts either.

oh, ew. twitter does that too. cant read comment without logging in.
for steam, you for sure dont need an account to browse steam and its forums but you would need one to comment.
but i am not disagreeing with the core of your message

I don't use Discord

Us console players often get the short stick. We don't have even endgame chat appearently because we're too slow to write? Reddit will be better than discord but it's definetely not the forum. Usually there is just some clips, complainings about their matches or lile you said memes.

Yes you will need a Steam account but you don't need to own the game on Steam to comment.
Steam forums has devolved a bit since this platform started, but if people here were to go back, it wouldn't be too far off how things are here.

We fully welcome any and all of your insightful discussion over on Steam if that's the platform that feels most comfortable for you. For what it's worth, it's one of the many platforms we closely monitor for feedback and discussions, so please don't hesitate to say hey over there!

I might be willing to rejoin the Discord, but I'm not sure if we will be able to have actual, meaningful discussions there like we did here.

If you're open to it, I fully encourage you to. And if there's something blocking you from having meaningful discussions, please share your feedback there to let us know what you're missing - we're always open to hearing feedback on how we can make things more streamlined or more conducive to discussion.

I am still considering it, to be honest, but there is a chance I will rejoin once the e-mails are sent to us.
What concerns me is the fact that Discord isn't really made for this, like the Forums are. Discord is a chatroom, its Forum feature doesn't see nearly as much engagement as it regular text chats do, but it is very difficult to have an actual discussion in said text chats: you send one message, and it is quick to disappear amidst countless others.
Unless you enable slow mode, of course, which is a feature no one likes.
