Dedicated Server With Chapter 13: Jason Voorhies?
Hi guys.
Yesterday reasoning on the dedicated servers and a future chapter on the license, I was thought that the devs could make the two coincide, or rather, in September release the DLC on license along with dedicated servers.
And here comes the idea:
In September, the chapter will be the thirteenth. What if they took the opportunity to finally release Jason Voorhies?
That is, think about it, it is an opportunity not to be missed and that will never happen again, in a single event releases both the dedicated servers and Jason Voorhies, the number "13" par excellence.
If they want to make a bang, even at the marketing level (even better than what happened with freddy with 8000 people live) can't miss this opportunity.
However, there is to consider that in my opinion, if we don't have the Jason with chapter thirteen, it will mean that we can't have Jason on dbd, this because in my opinion the devs will certainly think of this thing, it would be foolish not to think at least once, so if we don't release it with chapter 13, especially if until then we have not yet had dlc on license, it will mean that the chances of having it in the future will be very low.
What do you think?

I always thought it'd be a clever idea to make Jason the 13th Killer in the game but then we missed that chance so him being the 13th Chapter would be amazing.

I don't want a killer from a failed game in DbD. The devs might get sued just like the F13th devs.
2 -
Even the wiki says that the trapper is kind of Jason already

Jason is iconic but really I feel like he wouldn't be that exciting at this point in the game and would probably be shoehorned in power-wise.
I orefer an original killer because it gives them more creative freedom.
1 -
Yeah sure if you want this game to die like F13 sure bring Jason, this is the best way to kill a game.
1 -
Jason has his own game which is good for him.... his lisicense is already being fought over and it's best if bhvr just keeps out of it..... FFS... yes Jason is bad ass..... but I dont think he would work here.... just like Michael doesn't really work here but they did a decent job with him....... you only get a shell of the horror icons in DBD.... the best Liscienced character they did is the Saw chapter

What are you saying? it is obvious that if they bring Jason on dbd there will first be an agreement, they can not do it suddenly, in that case it is obvious that they would be reported

You have a distorted view of reality. The chapter of Saw is the worst successful, aesthetically horrible, even the map that is among the most hated, and the Pig is the worst character useless and horrible in the all saga, they call it "Saw" but has nothing of Saw that DLC, even at level of plot is wrong since the policeman is already dead when the Pig comes out in the movie.
Myers instead is the most successful licensed killer of all

Billy is also inspired by leatherface, and yet we have both
0 -
But the wiki don't say that, besides the similarities are not so so

F13th devs had an agreement. Still got sued.

Instead of Jason I'll rather have a rip off version called Johnny. All the lawsuits and rights BS is honestly a joke.
Plus having a rip off version instead gives the devs a lot more control over everything concerning the killer. Just as long as there is no reference to F13 im his bio or anything.

what you already mean is there, and it's the trapper

I would be blown away if they could pull this off. No other addition would make me happier... He's the 1 thats missing that REALLY needs to be here.

The F13th devs never got sued they had the rights to make the game from horror Inc who were legally allowed to give it to them at that time.
Victor Miller simply used the law which enables him to reclaim something he was paid for which he originally penned, basically the character of Jason Vorhees, he won and horror Inc appealed, the appeal from horror inc has been withdrawn for now.
I would love to see Jason in the game, we have all the other iconic ones so why not? The 13th dlc would be great idea, it's possible Victor Miller could come to an agreement so the devs could add him in some form, that is unless horror Inc reappeal again which could put the rights into limbo for a year or two.

true, but after reading this I see it quite difficult to happen: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/friday-13th-rights-at-stake-922911 😥

Trapper is our jason

For licenced killers I hope they get creative and think outside the box. I want scissorman

Since Victor Miller said he would be open to allowing new content for F13 the game, I'm assuming he could work out something with BHVR to allow them to use Jason. Victor isn't the problem here though, it's Sean Cunningham and Horror Inc. that don't want to give Victor his fair share of money (Which he deserves). So BHVR would have to talk with Horror Inc. to work out a deal. I'd love Jason in the game and if he was the 13th chapter that would just make it even better!

Didn't a puzzle game called Slashaway Camp get the F13 license. That seemed to look a mess of a game. If so then its possible to see that in future for dbd may be

Is the lawsuit not yet in progress? I read that
0 -
yes, but in theory until the legal cause ends Jason will not be in any game / movie, or the cause is over and they have found an agreement?
0 -
The lawsuit was concluded last year with Victor Miller being awarded the rights, horror Inc appealed but recent reports have said they have withdrawn it, that's not to say they wont launch an appeal again at some point.
1 -
This article talks about it in better detail than I could ever explain. https://www.screengeek.net/2019/02/27/friday-the-13th-lawsuit-update/
2 -
ok thanks but Miller had the rights only on the Friday of 1980 or even all the other films? And then, if the lawsuit is over, then why the Friday the 13th game can't receive new content?

Victor only has the rights to Pamela (Jason's mother) and kid Jason. Horror Inc. has the rights to the hockey mask Jason. As for no new content for F13 the game, the devs of the game already said that even if the lawsuit ended they would not add new content to the game, they said they didn't want to work on content that would possibly never see the light of day. So basically all content for F13 the game has been canceled.

I don't find him scary nor interesting. He is just a brute.
0 -
The game was DoA anyway.
0 -
They can’t get sued if they have the license to use him.
And it’s Voorhees.
0 -
it had a successful launch with many players but all the bugs made people leave. I played it until they announced no new content was coming which made me officially give up on the game. It's pretty dead now though. I go back to play it every now and then and lobbys take very long to fill up. Such a shame a great horror icon like Jason couldn't last for years to come in a video game

I have read that Miller has the rights of the first film of 1980, so behavior in theory if he makes an agreement with him we could have jason on dbd, also because Miller have took the rights of the film took them just to revive the brand with new projects the mask was already there in the first film, so they're probably just two different masks, but I do not think there are problems

I wouldn't touch Jason with a 10 foot pole now, since that lawsuit.
Who knows what else could come up because of that... Jason is a risk at this point. One company placed a bet on the F13 franchise and got the shaft for it, I wouldn't dare go down that path.

Indeed. It's like the Witcher author getting pissy over the deal he himself agreed to, instead of the better deal that was offered.

There is still a lot of things to sort out, while Miller owns the rights to f13th he only wrote the script for the first movie.
They still need to sort out the rights to the actual Jason character and his iterations which horror Inc has a huge case for since they created that persona without Miller's involvement.
There is also the case the Miller may only hold the rights in the US as the law he used only applies domestically.
I can see this being sorted out anytime soon, maybe in a few years.
0 -
among other things, in the first film isn't the killer jason? and so there is no jason with the mask that kills everyone, and so there could not be a collaboration with dbd because he doesn't hold the rights of jason killer, but only of the mother. quite right?
0 -
Yeah the iconic Jason look we know of today was created by the horror Inc team so it still has a long way to go.
It looks like Miller got f13th first movie rights, the other problem is the actual Jason Vorhees name as that technically is also a Miller creation.
0 -
the rights thing only in the United States sure that it was not eliminated when the miller won the case?
0 -
about the rights of the jason character, they belong to the horror inc and the director
0 -
but to have it on dbd could not make a deal with the horror inc/director of film? not necessarily with miller
0 -
This content has been removed.
-
Wouldn’t the easiest thing to do would get the rights for the most recent relaunch?
0 -
?
Miller has the rights to the first film, where Jason isn't even the killer and doesn't kill with the mask, in fact Jason is a child and dies drowned in the lake.
The rights of all the other films have the horror inc and the director.
So there are two options:
- Or Miller with the rights of the first film makes another film with his jason and another mask, and in that case you turn to him to bring it on the game.
- Or you turn to the director and then to horror inc to bring it into the game.

the only reason why myers is the most successful is because of the horror icon that he is....... he's like the Elvis Presley of horror....... I am stating that the licensed characters like Myers, Freddy etc.... are meer shells and is unsatisfying to play.... Freddy is pretty much a god in his own world.... Myers is pure evil....... Amanda however they were closer to being right on..
0 -
No as Miller technically created Jason Vorhees the character by name and won the case for F13th the first movie, so he in effect owns the rights to everything in that first film.
Now the look of the character may be given to horror inc but if they cant use the name what use is it? it may no longer be F13th or Jason Vorhees.
It seems there is a lot to discuss and I cant see it being straight forward for any party to do something unless they can sit down and sort something out which is mutually beneficial, if it gets split well its possible you may have Miller with F13th Jason Vorhees with no iconic look and then Horro Inc with the Iconic look but no F13th or Jason Vorhees, in theory.

Does he own the rights to the 2009 reboot? Because if not then you have your loophole right there.
0 -
Its launch was weaker than DbD's and it kept bleeding players every single week. It was DoA.
0 -
Engaging in legal loopholes does not end well. Unless you're a millionaire, that is.
0 -
the problem is that in the first film jason is not even the killer, is a child and dies drowned, so with the rights of the first film you can not make any content for any game
