Impressions on The Plague

So, I've spent the day trying to get in as many games as I can with The Plague. In fact she's the only thing I have played all day and here are some of my day one impressions on the new killer.

  1. The Power- Vile Purge has been a bit underwhelming and Corrupt Purge not much better. My issue with Vile is that the rate in which survivors increase their infection is quite slow. Seemingly the most reliable way to get the infection rate up is to just pelt them with a full charge stream. I found no real use for infecting interactables as the infection doesn't last any amount of time to make it worth the seconds lost to do so. The scoring on Purges is also far to low imo. On paper Survivors are supposed to choose between healing at pools or doing objectives, but healing is so quick and strong that unless you're chasing them they just go heal and get back to full health which I find a bit much. Even when sick they aren't really slowed down so if feels lackluster to use the power. Corrupt version would make up for it if it hindered or one shot the survivor, but just a tightly windowed ranged attack just sort of turns her into a lesser Huntress.
  2. Map- The new map is an interesting layout, but maybe it has too many palettes spawning in close proximity. I encountered 4 palettes within just a few meters of each other one game. Then another game there was a offset corridor of two palettes. With the amount of short walls on the map you could stand to lessen the palette count or spread them out more.
  3. Killer Weapon: The profane censer is pretty nice visually, but it has a consistent visual glitch where it gets stuck and then suddenly pops up into the killer's face. You can also watch it get stuck and then pop back into motion on the lobby screen. The lunge feels really short and may have been better served with rather than having a standard lunge animation having her swing the censer further out by its chain.

Overall, she's been pretty lackluster and I'll update this thread tomorrow.

Having the Corrupt Purge an instadown would definitely help her out in making her feel more powerful. I don't like that her VP doesn't really do anything and spreading it isn't efficient or worthwhile. It has no real negative effect on them, being Broken is fine because the fountains are everywhere and you don't even need to use one.

Giving VP an actual sickness that gives negative effects to them is what I thought it would do, it should do that, it should give them a punishment for not cleansing themselves and make cleansing longer. One Jigsaw box is longer than a fountain I think.

I honestly dont know why pools of devotion dont take time to use like jigsaw boxes, they could hinder the game extremely well if they did and would solve some of the plagues problems with applying map pressure

It takes too much time to infect somebody, by the time you close the gap a bit you shoot just hit them. The slowdowns she gets too for charging doesn't help either, underwhelming/10

She is definitely extremely WEAK. She takes way too long to infect,by the time you have infected or downed one person there are two gens done, infection spreads too low and it seems too much of a pain to get the corrupted purge because by the time you walk to a fountain they already need 1 gen to go.

    Day 2

Getting into games was a huge struggle. Matchmaking seems to have just went down the drown during this ptb for killer. I tried resetting my net, but not much improved. The Plague isn't as bad as I first thought(shock horror), but she's still not great in some ways. She's complex and needs a keen grasp of pathing, but not as complex as nurse.

    1. Purge is strong- Base Vile Purge is actually quite strong. I took sometime to get used to using and full disclosure I needed to go watch footage of high level streamers to get a better sense of what I needed to do. Breaking survivors is not particularly hard and with practice you can shorten chases a ton. I'd love to get more games in to really workout the kinks, but I just can't force matchmaking to happen with everyone in kill your friends. The corrupted version I still feel is lackluster, but what it lacks in exciting gameplay interactions it makes up for in usefulness. In all The Plague's power is good for her.
    2. Perks- Her perks aren't really getting me excited when it comes to using them on her. I think Corrupt Intervention and Infectious Fright are the best two while Dark Devotion feels very strange to use on her. Devotion could definitely setup some nice ambush plays which I feel may be a thing for her. Ranged ambush plays, but she's visually just a glaring beacon. You can't miss her and so I think that perk would be better suited to hag, freddy, or legion. Ruin is going to feel mandatory at lower skill levels to cover for time lost in prolonged chases.
    3. Infecting the environment- Honestly other than points I still don't see this being a big factor. On gens it is a good way to know someone has touched a gen after you've kicked it. Like a poor man's Surveillance. Survivors at maximum infection do better at spreading to the environment than you do. Though, during a chase she does punish loops that end in dropped palettes if you spew on it right behind them.
    4. Addons are still meh- I've yet to come across any particularly powerful addons, but right now she doesn't need much of a power spike.

All in all I'd say that she's a strong mid tier killer. If I had to compare her to anyone it would be a mix of Doctor and Huntress. She's got ranged ailments and ranged attacks to go along with her basic attack. Also speaking of her basic attack. The lunge just has to be shorter than normal. Watching footage and playing her myself gives me the feeling that her lunge is short. More tomorrow if I can get anymore games.

Day 2 has also change my mind on her. Yesterday I was focusing too much on how she should be played i.e infecting everything. But today I focused on how she is played, getting close and puking to Break them, down them etc like you said. I didn't know you got points for puking on objects though, that's really cool and good for her Deviousness. I made a guide on how to play her effectively and hopefully that helps everyone get a grasp on what kind of Killer she is.

Honestly even after learning how she is played I am still disappointed that she doesn't play the way she was presented, instead she's like you a mix of Huntress but I also want to say Leatherface purely because that they can both get to a person charging their power and one hit down them.

The best perks by far are the 2 yellow and green cooldown reduction perks. If you have both you basically have no cooldown after puking and can "instadown" ppl.
