Some ideas that I have about some issues players are having...
Some issues that are bothering people and a few ideas…
De-ranking (DR)
Disconnects (DC)
Rank Resets (RR)
Survive With Friends (SWF)
Things to note for this discussion:
New Player Ranks = rank 20 to rank 16
Casual Player Ranks = rank 15 to rank 5
Skilled Player Ranks = rank 4 to rank 1
Colour Categories
Brown – rank 20 to rank 16 (new player ranks)
Yellow – rank 15 to rank 13
Green – rank 12 to rank 9
Purple – rank 8 to rank 5
Red – rank 4 to rank 1 (skilled player ranks)
Match Making should be matching based on the overall colour category and not refine it’s searching to the individual rank numbers. Therefore, if you are rank 5 (purple) you can be matched up any other level of purple ranked player.
Players in the Brown (New Player Ranks) can be matched up with the Yellows, if there are not enough players in their category.
Players in the Red (Skilled Player Ranks) can be matched up with the Purples, if there are not enough players in their category. (See changes below to emblem points in red ranks to understand why this is, and why it doesn’t really matter if reds are matched up with purples.)
I am NOT advocating splitting up the playerbase by having separate queues for ranked, casual and or SWF players. My ideas are to keep everyone together in the same Match Making system, just with a few caveats.
Some of my ideas are tied together so I’ll may add in a note, “More on this later” where later in another section I will explain more on my reasoning behind the idea.
With that out of the way lets continue…
Make a small adjustment to the new emblem system:
(current) Purple Ranks
0 – 7 = -1 pip
8 – 11 = 0 pip
12 – 14 = +1 pip
15 - 16 = +2 pips
New Red Ranks
0 – 11 = -1 pip
11 – 11 = 0 pip
12 – 14 = + 1 pip
15 – 16 = +2 pips
The only thing that changes in the red ranks is the margin for black pipping. This will make it harder to maintain the rank in the red ranks, but not impossible to climb rank. If you make it to purple, than you are skilled enough to reach rank 1. This should be the assumption.
The reasoning on this is because I feel survivors should be able to bubble up from the purples to get into the red ranks, however they can’t casually get into that rank. Only skilled players will be in the red ranks. Survivor skill is basically capped at the purples, and they put in a bit more extra effort to reach red ranks. This is how I think it needs to be looked at.
New Lobby Yes/No Option: Rank Up
Add in the lobby an option for each player, either killer or survivor, that allows the player to participate within ranking up. This means, each match, the player can have that match count towards ranking up or not. However, it is important to note, this will NOT prevent players from losing pips.
Special Rules:
If opting out of ranking up, any white pipped earned will be considered a black pip.
Any black pip earned will still be considered a black pip.
If no pip is earned, the player STILL LOSES RANK. YOU CANNOT OPT OUT OF LOSING RANK.
Survive With Friends (SWF) will always be considered unranked matches, unless the player is in the new player ranks.
A player, within the New Player Ranks, regardless if they are playing SWF, WILL ALWAYS be opt’ed into the rank up. Players must rank up within the new player zone.
A player, within the Skilled Player Ranks, will NOT be allowed to opt out of ranking up. Red rank matches will always be considered ranked matches, exempt from this rule, SWF.
Reasoning
To allow players to achieve the rank they want and allow them to stay there. This will help with mitigating intentional de-ranking in matches, either by leaving the match, or suiciding on the hook in the sole purpose of losing 3 pips.
This gives players more control on the matches they wish to play.
We must accept ALL reasons for deranking, at this time, including those who want to stay at rank 15 and bully new players. These scenarios will be easier to isolate and treat in different ways. More on this later.
Survive With Friends (SWF):
All SWF groups will be considered opt’ed out of ranking up, unless noted on special rules.
SWF groups CAN STILL lose rank, even though they are considered opt’ed out of ranking up.
The reasoning is players want to play together but are not able to boost players high in the ranking system. Therefore, a rank 2 player won’t be able to boost their rank 12 friends into the red ranks with them. However, they can still group up with friends who are new to the game and teach them how to play. This is why new players in the rank 20 to 16 will always be opt’ed into ranking regardless if they in a SWF group.
SWF can continue to play the matches they have in the past and play with their friends, however if someone wants to earn rank they will need to do it solo and opt into ranking.
SWF will be minimized in the red ranks and allow more solo players to play there. Allowing for more mix bagged matches that players are accustomed to while ranking up in the previous rank zones (Colour categories).
De-pip squads will be hard to form in the red ranks. Since most of the players will need to be in the red ranks inorder to be matched with red rank killers. This also helps push down SWF groups as to not overburden the balance of play. This is nerfing SWF in the red ranks, since there won’t be any advantage for them to play in the red ranks as they won’t rank up.
Rank Resets:
One of the major issues I see with rank resets is how older players can lose rank into the new player ranks. Anyone who has spent 200+ hours should never, ever be matched up with new players. There needs to be rank minimums where a player can never be placed lower.
Rank Minimums are based on the players overall “purchased” account progression of that side. Everyone is grinding bloodpoints for perks. So the number of perks and the tier reflects how much time and effort they have put into the game. For example, each rank 1 perk is worth 1 point, each tier 2 perk is worth 2 points, and each tier 3 perk is worth 3 points. Each character can have up to a maximum number of perks at rank 3, based on what they purchased. Therefore a percentage can be calculated on the overall account progression for both the survivor and killer side.
Then set the rank mins such as: (Please note these percentages are to give an example of what I’m explaining.)
Rank 20 between 0 and 5%
Rank 19 between 6% and 7%
Rank 18 between 8% and 9%
Rank 17 between 10% and 11%
Rank 16 between 12% and 13%
So in this example, if a survivor player has grinded enough to earn 13% account progression, they can NEVER go below rank 15 and be placed with new players. EVER. You can lock out veteran players from deranking over several resets to troll new players.
You can also catch people who are hacking their rank to play with new players, by checking their account progression and their rank.
So rank resets happen as they currently are, however, players now have a minimum rank they can never go lower for either killer or survivor.
Disconnecting:
Remove the punishment of 3 pips when someone disconnect. Losing pips is no longer being considered a punishment by the community, infact losing pips is a reward.
Start implementing progressive TIMED punishments.
Level 1: 2 minute punishment
Level 2: 5 minute punishment
Level 3: 10 minutes punishment
Level 4: 1 hour punishment
Every regularly played matched reduces the punishment level by 1.
If the first DC was a crash, or internet lost connection, perhaps ignore the first DC, however if the connection is lost again within say 10 minutes then start treating crashes, and bad internet connections as intentional disconnects, and apply punishment. This doesn’t include losing the connection to the host because the host left the match or disconnected.
If people can lock themselves into their favourite rank, the don’t need to derank on purpose anymore.
After Thought…
People should now beable to control more often the number of “fun” matches they will have based on their motivation to play. Some people don’t want to rank up, some do. Some want higher skilled players, so they can rank up and play with them.
You can isolate griefing players who stay at rank 15 and play SWF to bully less skilled players. You isolate them based on their Devotion level. If they have a high devotion and play 4 man SWFs at rank 15 a majority of their time, they can suffer penalties in their matches, either bloodpoint wise, or hinderance in the game itself. Someone with a high devotion shouldn’t be playing in the Yellow ranks all the time.
We can’t stop every possible “unfun” match we will have, but we can increase the chances of matches we consider “fun”.
TL;DR: Add in a lobby option that will allow players to choose if they want to rank up. They can opt in and out before any match. They can then lock themselves into a favourite rank and not have to derank on purpose, however they can still lose rank. Handle SWF differently with that option, also modify rank resets to lock out veteran players from the new player ranks. Implement progressive timed punishments for disconnects.
If people have more control over the matches they play, it can lead to people staying in matches more often. Also more people can control their “fun” which should lead to better experiences.
These are ideas I want to throw out there.. not trying to steal anyones ideas either. If yours is in here.. I liked it enough to include it. I tried to format this the best I can.. but... pfft.

I like colour based matchmaking idea and dc penalties.
Swf should face killers better than swf avarage rank - this is just fair.
