Idea for balancing Mettle of Man

The first question should be: "why does this perk exist?" If a survivor just receives a hit for free, it's not even a well designed perk, it's just a "free hit perk". BUT if it can be used under certain conditions, it could be a good perk.

The main function of this perk is to take an extra hit, so how about the perk only activates IF the killer is carrying someone else? that would make it an altruistic perk, like borrowed time, or even sabo, to tank hits from a hook to help someone escape.

So:

After 3 tokens earned, If the killer is carrying someone and you take a hit, you won't be put to dying state. And maybe even go into broken state for 30 or 60 seconds. That would make the perk to be an altruistic perk more than a "free hit" perk and will bring new fun plays to the table.

On the survivor side, it helps to save a teammate from being hooked.

On the killer side, once the survivor escapes, now 2 survivors are injuried (even sometimes maybe 3 if 3 hits were needed to save him). So it will weaken a little bit the team and also helps the killer to gain control of the situation if he manages to take advantage of that situation.

Could even be a good perk for a sabo build, instead of saboteur/no mither which is a build to save yourself, you could use saboteur/MoM for saving others. It will also help you if you use WGLF and it 's good for the "take one for the team" achievement, and even "Cutting Out" achievement (for the one being saved).

AS IT IS right now, it's broken and it's a "free hit" for any situation, but if conditions are added, it might be a balanced perk, and even a really fun perk to use.

Thanks!

Good idea. And it gives a chance against basement builds.

i think it may be a little harsh, considering the 3 hits (=1 or 2 hooks) you need to go through, just to be able to take a hit while bodyblocking.

thats a little too situational in my eyes...

i think it would be better if you received the tokens by taking hits for the team and then avoid getting downed yourself after collecting 3 (= bodyblocking 3 times).

dunno how exactly that would affect the game, but i think it sounds good...

A lot of perks are situational (some even are TOO situational). The ones that aren't, are meta.

For instance, all 3 perks from Jane Romero are situational.

The previous contidions may also change for MoM. Instead of "after 3 M1 hits" you could do:

    1) After being hooked at least once.

    2) Once per match (like the old borrowed time).

    3) After being on the terror radious for certain amount of time (like Peeble)

The idea is to change it from a General Purpose Meta Perk as it is now, to a situational perk with certain conditions to activate so it can generate fun plays instead of being just "a free hit".

I'm not a fan of making it a token perk, since strong perks (like DS or adrenaline) are supposed to be used once per match. If you give a guy 3 chances to bodyblock, imagine a SWF team all using Mettle of Man! It would be insanely annoying (more than it is now) and it would break the game.

I'm in favour of making it a perk for special situations, maybe "one use per match" and going to broken state for 60 seconds (like DS), not something you can use anytime the killer tries to hook someone.
