Enhance Punishment for Disconnecting Survivors

I have reached the top elo ranking almost every month since i began playing this game (2 years, 4,000+ hours). However, recently, it appears that survivors are disconnecting from games at alarming rates.

For example, today, an estimated 7/10 games I played resulted in players being hooked or downed within a minute of start time and instantly disconnected. Consequentially, this leaves 3 survivors in a position to accomplish 5 genes (or 2 for a hatch escape) in order to survive.

As the game currently stands, players are penalized two pips for disconnecting. However, players see this as a very low penalty using a cost/benefit analysis than spending the next 10 minutes of their time attempting to stay alive in order gain enough points to save pip. It is MUCH easier as a survivor to just give up on a round and move onto the next round than suffer through a tough start and waste 10 minutes of their lives on a game which may not result in saving a pip.

If you want to make this game more fulfilling, please penalize those players who choose to disconnect from games they feel arent worth finishing. For example, maybe a time penalty before being allowed to play another game or not allow them to join a new game until the last is has been completed (see league of legends). This will disincentivize players from just "giving up and moving on to the next game" rather than really trying to play out the current match.

Penalize disconnecting survivors! They are ruining the game for those who are attempting to climb.

    So how do you want to differ willingly DCs (by leave, by forced close of the game, by forced close of the connection) and forced DCs (by game issues, by connection issues, by reason like a accident in household)? As long as there isnt any possibility to differentiate that, you cant punish everybody by default.

    @MegsAreEvil All DCs are treated the same.

    If you enter a ranked game in any game I know, then you will be punished if you quit due to RL reasons or whatever. Thats just how it is.

    Every competitive game I have ever played punishes disconnecters irregardless of the reason they disconnect. I cited League of Legends as an example in my post. There, they punish players who disconnect from ranked matches using escalating punishment system, starting with 5 minute wait times for 5 games following the disconnect, and increasing to up to an hour wait time between games. If the player continues to disconnect from games, it could lead to short term account bans.

    Personally the best thing to put in is a timer.

    DC you get 1 minute to re-connect if you don't, Punishment will find you!

    With a timer game crashes and small DC's are covered.

    Leavers won't be.

    @MegsAreEvil They can tell the difference between them all.... When it comes to things like connections issues... Like the Devs have mentioned before if the players connection drops allot perhaps that player shouldn't be playing. So I don't care if people who lose their internet connection because they live in a bad part of the country... that is too bad for them.

    A player's potato machine and connection shouldn't ruin the game for others.

    But to the OP.. (IMO) They Devs probably won't be doing anything anytime shortly... Right now things feel semi status quo... When the Devs come out with Dedicated Servers I bet they already have a possible solution in there. That is probably why we haven't heard anything from them about the DC issue.

    I think some of you have this game confused for an esport. It uses peer to peer ffs. I realize rank is nice to have and improve, but you get absolutely nothing for it. What you get for surviving and killing is pretty meager as well. Probably a wise decision by the developers in the end, considering how many whack decisions they have made regarding rank.

    I've seen plenty of DCing killers as well - and often times this also de-pips everyone in the game, when it should not. So just don't single out survivors.

    "Probably a wise decision by the developers in the end" --- That is why I made the post. The fact you "get absolutely nothing for [rank]" is not the point here. Its to make this game more enjoyable to play. When over half of your games consist of players disconnecting, its not very fun.

    Additionally, I agree with you that the disconnecting killers are a problem too. That also deserves its own post and action taken by the developers. Ive already sent multiple emails to them regarding this issue hoping they would fix it. Below is a copy of on such email.

    "Something needs to change regarding this.

    Let me lay out a scenario for you. Imagine you are dominating a killer all match. You will easily pip if you escape out the exit door. But before you get out the door, the killer manages to get you down and hook you. Then he attempts to face camp you. Luckily, you have good teammates who come to your rescue and manage to get you off. You all proceed to run towards the exit. Now, here comes to the issue. The killer is angry at getting dominated all game, so rather than let you escape, he disconnects from the game.

    This situation denies the survivors the survival points for making an escape. Consequentially, no one manages to PIP, while some may even lose a pip because they lacked the points to prevent a pip loss.

    Why do the survivors get punished for a killer disconnecting, while the Killer receives no punishment for the survivors disconnecting? This game currently allows Killers who are losing to disconnect before the end of the game, denying the survivors their PIP. The frustrated killer doesn't care that he loses 2 pips, while the survivors are left frustrated.

    Your recent change in the PIP system has already made it extremely difficult to PIP in most games at higher elo's. This situation makes it even worse.

    Stop punishing the survivors for beating the killer so bad that he disconnects, please.
