Maxing the next killer will take 8.2 million Bp

I recently did a video talking about the amount of bloodpoints it takes to level a character (killer) to max their perks and I thought I should share the math with everyone so we can start a conversation about what can be done about it.

Currently killers have 57 perks and each perk has 3 ranks.

One rank is gained per level so killers basically have 171 perk levels until they are maxed out. Levels 1-49 are easiest since the bloodwebs are generally smaller so the killer must level up 122 level 50 bloodwebs in order to max themselves out.

My progress was reset once and I was refunded about 56 million bloodpoints to get my characters leveled again, and I recorded myself spending all of them. At the time there were 10 killers so the information here is for 126 perk levels.

With that information I was able to add up the points I spent for each section so here it is.

1,408,000 for levels 1-49

3,966,00 for the remaining 77 perk levels on level 50 bloodwebs

This averaged 51,506 blood points for each perk level.

Today we have 171 perk levels. 122 after subtracting 49.

In order to bring a killer to max perks we need to spend about 6.3 million bloodpoints (51,506 x 122).

A new killer brings in 3 new perks with 9 perk levels adding about 464,000 bloodpoints to the grind bringing the total for the next killer to about 8,155,286 bloodpoints.

If a killer spends 10 minutes earning 20k bloodpoints, it will take 408 matches and 68 hours of gameplay to max the newest killer.

This is just gameplay. It doesn't include lobby wait times, dc's, short matches with low bp, long matches with higher bp, or many other issues that can impact match length and your bp earning rate.

I personally think this kind of grind is too much and am interested to see what solution is being worked on.

This barrier to play is quite substantial for newer players, and impacts their gameplay in a negative way if they don't have access to some of the necessary perks for their favorite killers.

I wrote this out to start a conversation, but for those interested in the video version I'll include it. It's basically everything I've already written except with some legion gameplay in the background.

Interesting! This is pretty useful actually. Thank you for taking the time and sharing.

I always love to do some math for the grind.

without a grind, i wont rly have any more reason to play tbh...

i want it to be an achievement to have all characters of one side maxed out, reducing the gring that wouldnt really be the case anymore...

<font color=#00d009> Despite playing for years I’ve been unable to max out p3 everyone, they should honestly remove perk tiers.

One ideal solution to reduce the grind is to just make all perks a single tier. Easier to balance for the developers and less full bloodwebs players will have to plow through to get what they want.

The reason to grind out everything is to stay competitive by having access to all perks and some good addons / items. Plus having access to everything is more fun especially when you know what kind of build you want. Anticipation of that build doesn't exactly feel fun to me at least with as long as I have played. Maybe to a new player it might be.

BHVR definitely needs a progression system that isn't so heavily factored into gameplay. The cosmetic shop was nice but imo there should be other various rewards to grind to.

Something defienntly needs to be done about the grind. I like the suggestion of removing perk tiers, I dont see any reason why we have perk tiers anyway too but that would definently be helpful

As someone who only recently started playing the game a few weeks after the Legion release, I deeply feel that grind. Getting the perks you want can take forever.

But the frustrating part is not so much taking a long way to get the things you want as it is accumulating trash tier perks and terrible add-ons allong the way. I have all this crap in my inventory I have no use for and I wish there was a way to refund some of it.

Which would be great imo, I dont want to grind anymore. I just want to play with all perks.

Pretty much how I feel. If all that keeps someone playing is grind I feel like the game isn't really worth playing. Felt the same way about Overwatch.

For DBD the reason I play is I feel that each round is surprisingly very dynamic although can get repetitive. I could care less about cosmetics or progression. I get why people like them but if I spend time grinding to be competitive I'd rather play an MMO. I 100% would have quit a long time ago if I didn't start so early where grinding didn't stack up so high.

Either the Devs make 3 and 4 perks appear in every Bloodweb at levels 45 and 50 or they leave the first tier in the Bloodweb and allow people to buy higher tiers with shards.

@HavelmomDaS1 The devs themselves have said they've seen statistics in the past of people quitting because they have no grind.

Back when they would gift tons of bp for progress loss McLean said these people gifted would quit soon after.

This game is super stressful for a lot of players and not fun for many reason the grind keeps many here.

There is a reason forums/reddit/streamers ######### about DbD all the time and never quit: The Grind

I actually think the grind should be longer. It's too easy to unlock teachables and prestige is too fast.

Especially with all the new bp offerings and perks like bbq/wglf.

2016 was peak progression rate imo.

If you want to grind so hard, go play a skinnerbox mmo or mobile game. I want to play the game part of the game. The tedium isn't attractive.

Even if you have nearly maxed out bloodpoints, you can only get a brand new character to their thirties. Filling a single node is time consuming, unable to autofill or pick a string all at once. The minigame aspect of leveling up is neat... at first, but contributes to the time spent in the menus.

Now that you've spent an hour there, you go play a match. Not with your gimped killer whose perks are based on the whim of rng, but with the one who already has the perks you're looking for.

Then you have factor in whether or not you continue working on the new killer or just unlock their perks for the killer you're using and if adding the new perks to the rosters other bloodwebs is worth it in the long run, making the NEXT killer's bloodweb exponentially larger.

Then, for the truly masochistic, you can prestige and start a character over, from scratch. Hours, upon hours spent in a single menu.

If slowly watching nodes fill and bp drain keeps you here, what's really here for you? It's not fun, it's compulsion.

Trust me at rank 20 you do not need perks and even then they'll at least have the starter ones for their killer oPart of this game is the grind.

People saying the grind sucks and doesn't matter would be the same people giving bad reviews on steam and saying the game is too repetitive if perks were just handed out. The game was built with progression in mind and it would be not nearly as good without it.

I don't think reducing the grind from 68 hours per character to, I don't know, 35 hours per character? Would make or break you.

His calc is wrong because it assumes no boosts which everyone uses nearly every game. Add in generous double bloodpoint weekends as well and its so easy to get bp in this game.

"This is just gameplay. It doesn't include lobby wait times, dc's, short matches with low bp, long matches with higher bp, or many other issues that can impact match length and your bp earning rate."

Doesn't mean I'm wrong, it just means an exact number isn't possible.

The math works for the numbers I have ;)

These people are all victims of manipulation, simple is that. They are no real gamers. I "finished" grinding long time ago and I still play. I had never the situation that I forced myself to play DbD just so I can keep going grinding stuff. I did breaks during double bp events lol.

My advice to those people: play something else, you are wasting your time without having fun.

Ok the grind its insane but this is why (personaly) i still play, for an objective, and i miss 1 killer and 3 survivors, is not impossible

If you have to put a grind in your game to get players to stay there's a big problem. I know it's a used tactic in the gaming world but the actual Trials should be the reason you stay.

The Grind is insane and for newer or casual players it seems impossible. Something should really be done about it. Double blood points should be the default at this stage.

A refund option for add ons and offerings we don't want would be nice too.

I like the perk tiers... I'd rather em remove the BP cap or increase it a ton... removing the tiers would cut it way too much imo
