The Grind and Santa

Dear Santa;

Sorry I didn’t leave you any cookies and milk this Christmas.

You got me a new computer last Christmas. I was very happy, so was my Dad.

My Dad setup my new computer in the living room and put a game called Dead By Daylight on it. I’m not sure if you heard that game. I think I will have allot of fun playing it!

My Dad said he wanted to get my Trapper with all the right stuff before I started playing so I wouldn’t have a hard time. I said ok! I want to kill all those nasty Neas!

That was 4 months ago and my Dad told me he hasn’t finished getting my Trapper ready yet!

I don’t know why it takes sooo long for him to get my Killer ready… He seems to be having fun, but when do I get my fun? Dad keeps saying.. the next web son… the next web… What does that mean?

He keeps wanting to get some BBQ and Chili but Mom makes supper every night, since he is playing my game all the time. Plus he can’t eat Chili since it gives him gas and Mom doesn’t like it. He just keeps going on about flickers and crutch bursters…. I think he is having problems sleeping now since he is getting up in the middle of the night and playing.

Mom is get mad now. She keeps telling my Dad to stop playing that game, but my Dad says he has to keep grinding… What is grinding? Who would be grinding my Dad in that game?

I still haven’t been able to use my new computer Santa. I wish you’d take it back cause it is grinding on my Dad also I think my Mom is gonna get the gardener to take it cause she keeps talking to him about digging a deep hole to put it into.

    But in all seriousness… The grind in this game is getting atrocious with every new set of 3 perks per side.

    If I was new, I would be severely put off by the grind. I can’t imagine what new players go through in this game when it comes to that.

    Right now… I will never play any character, survivor or killer without either We’re Gonna Live Forever and BBQ and Chili.

    Not only that… I find it hard to play any match without using some kind of bloodpoint offering.

    The bloodpoint offerings Escape Cake, Survivor Pudding and Bloody Party Streamers are the only bloodpoint offerings that make any sense. All the other ones are trash offerings which clutter up the web.

    I hate the idea that we get a web… and 90% of the stuff in the web you usually get is trash or low grade. You don’t even want or desire to use them. You are only happy to see them, cause of the cost being low.

    How many players who have leveled up their character to P3-Level 50 +… and have about 40+ of each trash brown items / addons that you’ll never use?

    Those things all represent lost time since you’ll rarely ever use them.

    I’m not sure how the Devs feel about the grind in the game, but this is just how it makes me feel.

    I feel sad for the new player who only plays maybe an hour or 2 a night.. or maybe even only 8 to 10 hours a week.  The game doesn’t need to be built around casuals, but the grind to me feels it would be very discouraging to a casual player.

    I do believe though that the grind shouldn’t be built around players who can spend 40 hours a week playing this game. Even when you watch streamers who have over 3K+ hours, who are still grinding out the game… This game is their job and even to them this grind can be a burden.

    I’ve turned casual in this game, if I didn’t have everything at a good spot to where I can maintain it, I would have left long ago. The problem with grinds is they can be addictive, but if the grind becomes to heavy, you begin to realize the amount of lost time in the game doing meaningless things.

    Word of Warcarft is a prime example of the company that exploits it’s playerbase for the grind. Once you get close to something you want, they move the bar. So all the time you spent feels wasted.

    Everytime I open a character to select an item and add-ons I see all the wasted time in the number of crap items I’ll never use.

    That depresses me as a player.

    I usually will defend the Pay-To-Win concept some players will put out there. I don’t feel the game itself is P2W.. But the grind certainly is. If you don’t have BBQ and Chili on your killer… I can’t even imagine playing this game and trying to grind out perks.

    TLDR;

    I actually believe either the game will die or I will physically die, before I could use up all my extra items, add-ons and offerings.

    Seriously, every time we get a yard ahead, BHVR goes and moves the goal line down to the other side of the field!
