Added player I reported on steam and asked him if he got banned (he gets pissed)
Why I made the report
I was playing Dead by Daylight solo survivor and I got in to a green ping game everything was okay until the killer (Hill Billy) started chasing me. I suppose he got tired of me looping him although I was not doing anything abnormal just trying to survive, I was not doing anything toxic. I think the killer used one of those modified cat6 cables to block outgoing incoming traffic (not sure just a guess). I would like to give everyone that is reading this post the ability to decide for themselves if this is my connection dropping out or if this is an ordinary lag switcher.
The confrontation
So after 2 weeks I received an email from the support team that the status of my case was changed to solved. I was curious if the support team took actions against the player I reported so I added him on steam and asked him if he got banned I'm not sure if I offended him in some way but he got pissed right away. Same here please read the conversation for yourself.
Disclaimer
I am not trying to spread hate or give the player in question a bad name. All I want out of this thread is to discuss the opinion of other on this matter.

You may want to edit all your screen shots. Name shaming is extremely frowned upon in this neighborhood.

Good point, I am not trying to name shame the player I reported I just want to discuss what happened.

My honest opinion, you going back to this person two weeks after the fact, to question if they got banned was a bit spiteful and juvenile. The support team closed the case. Simple as that. Honestly cannot blame the player for being a bit miffed at you.

What is your intention with this thread?
3 -
This is just wrong on so many levels, you never add someone to ask if they got banned ever.
12 -
It's a bit strange to add someone who you reported asking if they got banned and then seem surprised they get a bit pissed tbh.

The reason I added the player was out of curiosity it seems lag switchers I report never get banned so I wanted to know if they might got a soft ban instead of a game ban.

You should’ve just reported him and left it at that.

So did he gets banned?

I'd probably get pretty upset if random people messaged me asking if i got banned as well.

Who knows with the current state of the game.
1 -
It's possible. Different maps, different graphical elements.

If you're scummy enough to gain unfair advantages by lagswitching, exploiting or whatsoever then you have absolutely no right to get upset when someone asks you if you got banned yet. Mentioning consequences of someone's actions can be a way to learn, and make them think twice next time.
I do somewhat understand your curiousity, as it seems like many people still get away with bannable offenses.

A player has the right to know if their reports actually mean something; that is not spiteful nor is it juvenile.
1 -
Adding them and jumping on their profile to bother them about a video game makes you just as bad if not worse.
4 -
Stalking the profile of someone reported, then asking if they got banned is very spiteful.

???
What's the purpose of this thread? I don't see killer buffs or survivor nerfs.

*sigh...

They really don't. This is the video game equivalent of an ongoing investigation.

Just reporting him is a little useless, you have to create a support ticket and show more info to devs

It depends on the offense. For lagswitching the game has all the info they might need. However, a support ticket doesn't hurt.

The make it clear to everyone I contacted him on steam because I got frustrated seeing that no one that I reported got a game ban. That I was I added the player I reported. The purpose of this thread is to discuss if this was a real lag switcher or not because he denied everything as seen in the screenshots.

You can't see temporary bans on Steam; only permanent ones. And it wouldn't surprise me if some of your reports were for things that are not actually rule-breaking.

I don't think he lagswitched.
That part of the map is problematic, as soon as I have seen the map, I wondered if it happened around that log near the boat and yes it happened right there.
Same thing happened to me. I didn't think about it that much, thought it was a lag spike or something and moved on.
Then I was watching a streamer (ZubatLEL), and the same exact thing happened to him. The whole chat started to talk about their experiences as well. If I had time I could even find the moment in one of their VODs but unfortunately I don't.
Don't go near that log.

I would be pissed too if someone randomly contacts me asking about a ban that I was supposed to receive (because of that person) for something I never did. This person remained calm and nice for relatively long, if it was me you would've been blocked at least after that video claiming that I was a lagswitcher.

You won' ever be directly told if someone gets punished due to privacy rules and laws and for all you know he was innocent. It's not up to you to be the hall monitor so to speak, it's up to the mods to deal with it.
By contacting someone you are in fact harassing them according to steams own rules you agreed to follow and should that person report you you can be punished. Now think very hard on that one for a minute, you just put your own account at risk trying to play investigator.

I have reported people for various reasons before and they got punished appropriately. To give you an example I reported a save game modder a month back and after the status of my support ticket was changed to solved the player I reported received a game ban. But after my friend said to me the support team does nothing against lag switchers I got curious if this really was the case. That is why I added him. After I received the email stating my ticket status altered to solved I checked his profile to check if he had received a game ban. I did not stalk him for 2 weeks and it was not my intention to harass him (neither did I in my opinion). Neither did I demand anything I just asked him if he got banned because I thought he might received a soft ban instead of a permanent ban.
The current outcome of this thread is not as I had wished to accomplish with it. I suppose that is my fault and I should not have added the conversation part although I thought it was good for context. As I stated in the first post of this thread it is not my intention to name shame or participate in hate speech I simply wanted to discuss the lag switching matter (if it really was a lag switcher yes or no).

I would hope that the ban hammer would never come down on someone for a single possible lag-switch incident. If they agreed with you and they thought it was a lag switch, they should just monitor the account for future incidents to confirm and then ban them once confirmed that they are doing it.

Whether or not this person was banned or not is irrelevant we do not discuss bans or possible cheats on this forum.
