The Steam forums need a rework.

Likely not the best place to say this and should be saying this, again, in the Steam forums themselves. But I have to let it be known just how far behind the Steam forums are.

The "News and Announcements" page, DbD's default discussions page, hasn't had an updated post or new post at all since September 2018. Over 8 months ago!

That isn't right. Why even bother having that sub forum at this point. It reeks of the devs, or at least the Steam mods, incompetence and makes DbD look like a dead game. The first thing people see when maybe thinking of buying DbD, are 8 month old posts and nothing else. That instantly tells people DbD is likely a dead game and should never buy it. It only makes things worse with the game being free to play currently and being on sale.

Patch notes? They haven't existed since 1.9.4, we are on 2.7.0 now. New Killer or event details? Nothing to be found. Cosmetic fluff? Nope, not there either.

This "News and Announcements" page really lives up to Dead by Daylight's name!

It died long ago.

They could stand to be updated A LOT. However they have said they are still being worked so I feel the devs already know this and agree they still need a lot.

I think they should also take advantage of the forums by having the DLC and recent cosmetics being advertised on the page to try and incentivize people or even just let them know of new releases. They are already paying for the page so it's kind of free advertising.

My biggest gripe is the forums on mobile. All of the topics and a lot of the print in general is in a dark red on a black background. This is really straining on the eyes. It needs to be a much, much brighter red or a different color. Not very user friendly currently.

I feel like Steam forums are rather notoriously bad and generally only filled with people having technical problems/bugs and trying to figure out how to solve them. Would be nice to have recent news on there buuuuut idk how many people actually look at the steam forums beyond when they're looking for aforementioned tech support. That's the only time I ever look at them personally. But, I could easily be in the minority there.

It is just plain laziness on the part of BHVR. It takes all of 5 seconds to post whatever official announcements you have here or in the game and copy it into Steam. If you don't have a community manager handling the Steam Forums, for goodness' sake get one. Or get your PR team here to take 5 seconds out of their day to post the same updates on Steam.

    This is not hard.

It's not the 5 seconds it takes to post, but the minutes/hours that would be needed to reply. Otherwise they'll get called out for that too.

This isn't just a steam only game. It's on all platforms and is coming to Switch later this year. You don't waste resources on other platforms that you do not control. Which is why these forums exist.

Im not asking to add to your workload by doing something you already done several times over. If the N/A sub forum isn't being updated, just remove it. It no longer serves any reason.

You guys make what information there is VERY well known! Steam News tab in the community, these forums, in game, and even reddit posts. If you can't find the information when it is THAT wide spread, you're blind.

All Im suggesting is to do a little spring cleaning.

If the N/A sub-forum doesn't need to be there, and it clearly doesn't for a number of reasons already listed, just remove it. Make the general discussions sub-form default again. It looks better for potential players and certainly would help in sales figures. First impressions means a lot, and if the first thing someone sees on Steam is a long dead rotting corpse "News" sub-forum. That tends to turn people away.

Why do you care about Steam forums when we have official forums here?

As wonderful as these forums are, I do agree with the OP that the Steam forums would benefit from being kept up to date in terms of the announcements page. Some players are not going to check out this forum in comparison to the one on Steam and sharing news there more frequently would go a long way to making it livelier. You could even include a line on the bottom of every announcement telling players to check out this website for the latest news.

I can understand that it isn't a current priority due to how few moderators you currently have. However, it is my understanding that you've selected new moderators that should begin their duties soon, so perhaps it would be possible to delegate the maintenance of the Steam forums to some of them?

I lurk through the Steam forums pretty frequently, and they are actually quite active. Perhaps not as busy as this website, but certainly not dead. The biggest issue I found with them is that people can occasionally be pretty mean-spirited there, but I think that has something to do with the lack of available moderators that @not_Queen mentioned.

Why wouldn't I want to use the Steam forums? It's the original home for the DbD community, is rather active, open to have proper discussions, easily accessible being built in Steam itself, and tends to be worth reading most of the time. I'd like to say that the Steam forums is the first place most people go to as well for questions and what not. It would be a bad idea to ignore the Steam forums.

These forums aren't bad, but they are only a part of the community holding likely the smallest part of the DbD community.

Reddit is in my opinion the worst. It's a freaking circle jerk filled with 90% memes, 10% details, and not a single discussion to be found.
