totally agree with this person battle pass should not exist in dbd and forcing content creators to buy the battle pass to stay up with viewiers and followers it's kinda not really legit

I agree with the Video as well.

Agreed, but also keep in mind there are separate teams working on different things like the art, bugs, cosmetics, modeling etc

If it was that easy there wouldn't be alcoholics: "Just don't buy alcohol, easy!"

You can't rely on mentally unhealthy people making healthy decisions. The same goes for minors which everyone knows play games that are not appropiate for their age based on the rating

Unless there are advantages that a battle pass offers that other distribution methods (freebies, sold in store) offer there is no good reason to include it in the game, and so far no one has been able to come up with advantages (hint: there are none for the customer)

By that logic, the creation of goods for sale is mental abuse.

While I agree and think a battle pass isn't needed in DBD, This isn't exactly something new from the Devs though. If there's something to monetize off of they'll do it.

Just look at the price of cosmetics, The Insane grind for shards, Even some of the decisions made recently like MoM could be seen as a cash grab.

@se05239 I can't understand this. I've never felt pushed to buy anything in this game, skins, this battle pass, anything. I don't think everyone has a limit. Although I agree this battle pass is to pressure people into buying.

Alright, I'm going to tell you a big secret that "They" don't want you to know.

There is no big conspiracy to "wither down one's mental state". All there is, is companies using tactics that work to sell things because many people just can't say no. They have no impulse control. They have no self-control. They don't think before making a choice. And then they blame "Them" for their own bad decisions, like they're victims of anything other than their own lack of discipline.

Do you know what I do when I see an item on sale? A 2-for-1 deal? A €9,99 item? Absolutely ######### nothing. I don't need nor want that item on sale. I don't care if it's a 2-for-1 deal because I either only need the one or don't need it at all. €9,99? Too expensive - most of the miscellaneous crap I buy costs less than half of that per unit, and even then I weigh the pros and cons.

You want to know what's actually ######### people over financially and they have no control over? The hyper-accumulation of wealth, which always leads to major economical catastrophes. Well, unless the governments get the stooges (that would be everyone who's not in the 1%, if you're keeping up) to pay for it. And they do, which just perpetuates the cycle.

People having no self-control, however, is their own fault. Stop blaming someone else for the decisions you make.

I'm fairly neutral in this Battle Pass discussion - I think it's stupid, but I don't really care one way or the other - but your attempts to shift the blame for the financial decisions that people make is absurd.

@Orion I completely agree. I think it's stupid but I DEFINITELY won't be pressured into buying it, that's a bit strange. Although, again, some people will be.

How's it even pressuring anyone, though? I don't feel pressured to buy their skins. I think most of them range from "unsightly" to "downright fugly". The only thing they all have in common is that they're absurdly expensive. If I were still streaming regularly and getting a ######### ton of donations, I'd consider putting that money into the few skins I actually like, but using my own money to buy completely optional things that I think are overpriced? Hell no.

The battlepass is like, the last thing we need. The games health is more important than a artificial panic they're trying to create on people that just throw money into the wind.

We need audio fixes, game-play changes, and other such things before a battlepass should be considered. Nothing they've done so far has fixed the bigger issue, its just band-aids on a severed arm...

I'd personally just buy a cosmetic rather than buy the possibility to unlock it if I decide to play enough.

Pretty sure you'll be able to buy skins from the Battle Pass on an individual basis, assuming it comes out. It'd be silly to do otherwise, since you'll end up spending more money on the game that way.

battle passes aren't random... you just have to commit some time to accomplishing their goals weekly

Lack of maturity and education is what causes things like FoMo to exist - regarding this, it makes sense so many young people are affected.

The video is also ironic. He is passionately against a battle pass and uses scaremongering, speaking of manipulation and psychological tactics, yet he would still allow his partner to just buy a battle pass? Very strange.

If you think, you are prone to or have FoMo, research it and develop tools in order to get rid of it.

Personally, I am not fussed if they add a pass or not because I play the game for fun and like the horror genre.

    Good luck to you all!

Depends how they do this specific battlepass, but we'll see how it goes. I doubt they'd do ANYTHING different since the point of a battlepass is to progress in it to gain rewards.

If they did anything different it wouldn't be a "battlepass" it would just be a pass lmao.

I suffer from impulse control. I also have a very addictive personality. I am a recovering pain killer addict and alcoholic. I know I have these issues. I am the person these tactics "target". Guess what, I do not buy battle passes or cells for cosmetics. Why? Because while I lack impulse control, I learned over the years how to fight it and not make stupid choices. It is a constant struggle but can be done.

Oh yeah about the comments of kids playing and battle pass. Be a ######### parent and limit the amount of time your kid is online. Don't give them your credit card. Oh yes stop giving them everything they ask for. Parents, do your damn jobs. Stated by a father of 7.

I agree completely with the video.

I think it’s great some people can boast about having strong will power (an iron will if you will) about fomo and the predatory business practices plaguing the multiplayer game industry. Good for you.

Other people like myself though have every reason to be concerned. I am extremely vulnerable to such practices. It’s one of the reasons I left Overwatch (which unfortunately got me to get the new limited time Mercy skin) because I saw they didn’t care for balance so much as what will fork over the most $$$.

I used to believe in the “it’s just cosmetic” theory. But that’s what they want you to think. Especially in an age where multiplayer games put ever more emphasis on how you look in the game. It’s very insidious.

Also one of the reasons that I liked about dbd was that yes, there were micro transactions BUT you could get them anytime you wanted - no rush, no fomo. I don’t think that will continue with a battle pass.

I would be okay, not pleased but okay, if they made the battle pass stuff available for purchase anyway.

Just to add to this... majority of the psychological studies that marketing is based on is from the 1960's. Every company uses it. EVERY ONE. BHVR, Sony, Marvel, McDonald's, Walmart, Shop Rite, everyone.

So not only is none of this a new thing, it's everywhere. Yet people complain about it here because....?

@Madjura "If it was that easy there wouldn't be alcoholics: "Just don't buy alcohol, easy!""

It actually is that easy. Not Bacardi's fault if you can't stop drinking their product. Maybe seek help.
